Toddlers: 24 Months+

1st week of potty training

Were on day 5 and were doing ok. Thursday he did awesome!!! But yesterday and today we have to constantly ask if he needs to pee or poop. But his answer to everything is no. I only use diapers at naptime and bedtime. I have 90 diapers so I'd like to use those up before buying pullups. He's wearing underwear during the day. I'm a sahm. I was just curious how other kids do after a week. I know I shouldn't compare but I'm just really curious.
DS just turned 2 in January. I wasn't planning on planning on potty training but Monday he refused to wear his diaper. So I decided to get started.

Re: 1st week of potty training

  • My DD is pottytrained during the day except for naps and she refuses to wear diapers or pullups but she doesn't ask to go, we have to force her to sit on the potty, she'll just hold it and hold it. So i think it's normal for them to take a while to start going.

  • We tried a few it times with ds but he wasn't ready.  Last month, it took a day for me to potty train him.  He is completely day trained, including poop, naps, and in public.  He has had maybe 3-4 accidents since then.  We have not started night training as he has not woken up dry consistently yet.

  • it took dd quite a few weeks of pting before she would tell me she had to go

now she's really good, I don't have to ask at all - but that took at least a month, before  I could start trusting her to tell me & I stopped asking at that point (except before we leave the house & before nap time...)

  • Sounds like us!  We're on day 4 of potty training.  They were doing good...5 accidents Day 1, 3 on Day 2, 4 on Day 3...but today we've already had 4 and the answer is alway "no" if I ask so I just make it a part of our routine to go before snack, lunch, activities, etc..  We've been doing pull-ups at nap/night time and they've been dry when they wake from naps...whoo hoo for saving mommy money :)  They turned 2 last November and they basically did the same thing, refused to wear diapers if they were at all wet.
