NN spelling Emmy or Emme

She is not here yet but we plann to use her nick name alot and my husband and I are spelling it different.  Which spelling do you prefer Emmy or Emme?

Re: NN spelling Emmy or Emme

  • I prefer Emmy, but I wouldn't side-eye Emme since it's just a nn.

  • I would use Emmy or Emmie to minimize any potential pronunciation confusion.
  • I like Emmy, b/c there is no doubt on the pronunciation. Emme could be "Emm-ie" or just "Em"
  • Full name will be Emmery.  I know people have strong opinions on it but thats just the name for us.
  • I know the first name Emme is mostly said like Emmy.  But I still feel like most people will think Emme is said like "Em", and that's how I often want to say it when I see it.  So, my vote is for Emmy.

  • To avoid any possible confusion, Emmy.

  • We were team green with #3, but if we had a girl, her name would have been Emerson with the nn Emmy. I wanted to avoid any confusion with just "Em".

ETA: I actually wanted to spell it Eme (like the first 3 letters of her first name) but thought people would confuse that with "Em" as well.

    I don't think it matters; it's just a nickname.
It matters if you're going to put it on stuff and/or announce it.

  • As an alternate-my sister's name is Emily and we all called her Emi as a nn growing up. Although-I can't really think of when we wrote it down or spelled it, so not sure how we "knew" that was the spelling. LOL

I go almost exclusively by my nickname and write it out all of the time. So it does matter.

OP, I think Emmy avoids confusion.

  • I don't think the spelling of a nickname matters.  We call our DD Livi, I spell it L-I-V-I, DH spells it L-I-V-Y and a friend of ours spells it L-I-V-V-I-E.
