I need car / twin help.

I have a 2013 VW Golf. I love it! I can easily fit 3 carseats across the back seat. I have 2 Keyfits and a Radian. The one huge downside of my car is it apparently has the worlds smallest trunk. I went to Babies R Us, Target, and a kids consignment store. I tried out about a dozen double strollers. None even come remotely close to fitting - including an umbrella type side by size. What the heck do I do now? I have a son who will be 3 1/2 when the twins are born. I'm a SAHM and will continue to do that. My DH works long hours (usually 5-5) and often has to work 6 days a week. I will need to be able to do stuff like go grocery shopping on my own. Even if I find a stroller to fit in my trunk where would I put groceries? I know it's still early but if we need to do something about getting a new car I'm guessing we need to get on that sooner rather than later.

  • It's probably not what you want to hear, but we're getting a minivan. Couldn't make it work any other way.

  • I have fought it tooth and nail. But once we found out we are having twins and already have two other children in cars seat we knew what we had to do. Minivan time!
  • Minivans are awesome. I would do that in your shoes. I did it in my shoes and I owned a midsized SUV before that! But if you really have to stick it out with your car I'd look for the old style of the DSNG. I hear that folds smaller than the new one, if the new one doesn't fit. As for groceries, put them in the front seat and on the floor in the back seat.
  • Another vote for a van..... :)  We have a Honda Odyssey and I LOVE it even though I fought and fought and fought not to get a van.  I couldn't imagine not having all that space now.

  • You could probably go SUV. I love my Honda CRV and I'm pretty sure I could get three across if I had to! There's plenty of room for any stroller in the back.

  • That sucks. I think we're going to try a Phil and Ted's Dot because it folds up small enough while we save up for a van. I'm not against a mini-van.... we just don't have the money to trade in my brand new car right now. At least we know what we're in for!
  • It sounds like you're leaning towards getting a new vehicle, but if you decide to stick with your current car and are looking for a small double stroller, I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and the Combi Twin Sport was recommended by several MoMs. I also have a small trunk Honda Civic hybrid which has a smaller trunk than a regular Civic and the Combi fits well in it.

  • Well you could get something like an expedition or sequoia if you are opposed to the minivan I definitely was but a minivan is more cost efficient. I'm having twins in May and have an 19mth old DD and had to trade my 4Runner for a Sequoia to accommodate three carseats across and have good trunk space. I think cost will be your deciding factor because you definitely need a new vehicle.

  • I would just get the stroller that fits Combi twin is smaller and get home delivery of groceries or go when my hubby is home. We thought we would have to run out and get new vehicles but surprisingly no issues with them wait and see that is what I would say.
  • I would personally go with an Acadia, which we had before or a Tahoe, which we have now. I am kicking myself for not getting a tahoe with 2nd row bucket seats so the older two can easily walk back and me strap them in versus the middle bench seat. In a way I want to get a Suburban just because we do a lot of traveling and are heave packers. I too am a SAHM but with 4 kids... Im not sure how many places I'll be going by myself!
  • We bought the Mazda 5 right before they were born and it was a good choice for us, but we don't have an older child. I'd def say get something bigger if you can afford it.

  • We ended up with a  minivan also. We bought the Toyota sienna and love it. I had a rav4 and although a double stroller would fit in the back, 3 car seats did not fit comfortably and we were in the market for a new second car.
