DS is 16 weeks actual, about 9 weeks adjusted. He's been on Enfacare since the NICU. I've been supplementing with what little BM I produce. I've decided to stop BFing and go completely to FF. The pedi wants him to keep him on Enfacare because he has terrible reflux and is a slow gainer. This is fine except the Enfacare is really expensive (they only make the 12 oz. cans - nothing bigger). I want to switch to a more ecomonical formula, but I know he still needs the extra calories. I know that regular formula can be fortified to add the extra calories. WWYD? Continue with the Enfacare or fortify the regular formula? Any insight would be appreciated! TIA!
Re: Formula Question
Can you switch to enfamil but mix it to be 22cal (or 24)? At least then you could buy the larger containers or buy in bulk online.
Ask the pedi, you may be able to save money this way and still be able to give your baby the higher calories.

I don't know about Enfacare, but DD was on Neosure for her whole first year. she gained weight quickly, but neosure has extra nutrients that babies usually get in the 3rd trimester. If Enfacare is the same, it might not just be about the calories.
But talk to the pedi and explain it's a financial hardship and ask if there are generic brands that might work too.
This is true, and I should have pointed this out! We had to switch from neosure to regular enfamil mixed to 22 calories becuase of kidney issues caused by the excess minerals (esp calcium and vit D) that were in neosure. This was offset by giving poly-vi-sol.
Talk to your pediatrician. Im sure they can help you best address this hardship.
