Intro! :) And question

Hi Ladies,

I've been lurking for awhile and have decided to join in after hearing my babies' heartbeats on Friday. I'm 31, DH is 33, we've been married over 4 years, and this is our first pregnancy. Needless to say, we are beyond thrilled! After 5 months on Clomid, OBGYN ordered and HSG for me and SA for husband. HSG = normal; SA = abnormal. Referral to an RE and we were given the option to either repeat SA or go for IUI. Thank goodness we decided to repeat SA, which came back normal. However, at the RE consult appt. (I was actually already KU at the time and didn't know it!) the doc said based on our hx of ttc, he suspected endo. He did u/s, found "fluid" indicative of endo, and told me to call on CD1 to schedule lap. Thankfully, CD1 never came :) Strange...  The HRs on Friday at the OBGYN (when I was 7w2d) were 158 for Baby A and 168 for Baby B.  Does this seem a little high to anyone? Compounding my worry is that I read HR is supposed to increase by 3 beats per minute, per day until week 9.  I actually have an RE appt. today for another u/s (long story, I'll post below so you can skip if you want), and in my crazy mind I've already figured out that it's going to be either much higher at this point, or not increasing the way it should. So I'll worry either way. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, and I am SO blessed to have such strong HBs, but I've been up since 5 googling embryonic tachycardia like a crazy woman so I thought I'd ask.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you over the next 7 months!

Re: Intro! :) And question

  • My OB vs. RE turf war, if anyone's interested: When I got my BFP, I wasn't sure who to call, esp given that I hadn't been under any tx from the RE and was already pregnant during my consult appt. My OBGYN's office wasn't open yet when I called, so I called RE's office to ask about next steps. They said I need to stay in their care and not return to OBGYN until they've cleared me (8 wk u/s). They did my HCGs, and all was well and good. However, they put me on a strict "no exercise" clause -- nothing about me, they say it's for all their newly pg. pts -- I'm a long distance runner than ran daily, and a yoga fanatic. They said no to both. But, when I asked for a letter to help me get out of my ski trip (and get my non-refundable lift tickets $$ back), they balked. They said a skiing in Utah was just fine, because it wouldn't "make my cheeks red or make me pant" like running/yoga would. Um, yeah, they've apparently never been skiing. So, I called my OBGYN to ask his opinion on exercise, and he was more interested in getting me in for an u/s than anything. He incredulously asked, "so they never confirmed your pregnancy with an u/s?!" and scheduled me for a 5w2d and a 7w2d u/s. He also gave me a letter for my lift ticket refund :) OB said not to worry about going back to RE. However, they took 8 vials of blood during consult visit and said they'd go over results with me at this visit, so I want to go. I also want to close the loop, per se, and selfishly, yeah I want another u/s and want to ask if endo is still a possibility, or if it was misdx.  Gotta love being stuck in the middle of two providers :)

  • Don't sweat the heart rates. My boys' were all in that range at my first u/s, which was 7w3d.

    Congrats and welcome!

  • Congratulations! Don't worry about the hb's. They sound very normal to me.

  • It sounds like you've been through a lot these past few months. I would still go to the RE appt to hear the results for future use, but I don't think I'd return there again. Make sure you get copies of your records.

As for the heartbeats, they sound good to me. They will vary from visit to visit and eventually get slower as they get bigger. As long as your doctor is happy and you trust him or her you should be fine. Congrats on the twins!!

  • Congrats on your pregnancy! I wouldn't worry about the HRs. I feel like mine were on the higher side around that point, as I remember googling fetal tachycardia too! Unlike the HR wives tale, my boys' HRs were always on the higher side. They are just perfect now!

I was in love with my RE's office, but I had been a patient for over a year and had a bleh OB (had me on meds without monitoring!!!) before my pregnancy. So, I say go to that RE visit...but I'm a RE lover and would have moved in there if they'd let me =). FWIW, they shouldn't be able to give you a definitive endo diagnosis without a lap (or at least that's my understanding...I was unexplained IF, so endo was always one of the possibles), so I wouldn't be too disappointed if that is still up in the air. GL at your visit!

  • HR's sound right to me for the date both of mine reached the 160's by 8w or so and then slowed a little as the babies grew. All of my singletons were 160's for most of their gestation, but my boys slowed into the 140's as the pregnancy progressed. I'd rather they be on the high side than the low side! Sounds like you have two healthy little babies in there!

  • Thank you all for your reassurance and support! At today's RE appt, he said he didn't measure HR because it "looked good" on screen and that the HBs from Friday's appt were "fine." Kinda glad I didn't get the exact numbers; too much information is evidently a huge problem for me!

  • My first U/S was around the same time and i remember the heart rates being in the 160's and 170's - just had our 20wk U/S yesterday - both are down to 147. ? Don't sweat it - and if you do - turn to everyone here..they are full of wisdom and have?definitely?helped me calm down about plenty of first time mom concerns. ?Good luck!
