Weight Watchers - Is it worth it?

Hi ladies -

Anyone using Weight Watchers? Is it worth it?

I've been looking into it, as they have a good deal going on with sign-up, etc. But I researched a little online, and most of the reviews said you could find free apps/online sources that did the same thing. Is this true? Is it more structured than that? Just curious! I need to lose about 25 lbs, and I was hoping it might help :)

Thanks!

  • I did it for 3 months back when DD2 was a year old.  I was successful doing it.

You could also monitor diet/exercise on Sparkpeople which also allows you to record you food intake/exercise.

  • I did it before I got married and it worked wonders, BUT, they changed the way the plan worked and I totally didn't like it.  I actually just cancelled my membership because there are so many other sites, like SparkPeople.com, that could work instead.

  • I lost 30lbs in 7 months with WW. I used the mobile app on my phone and I LOVED it!! I definatley think it's worth the cost and will definatley be signing back up as soon as LO is born. I was 10lbs away from my lifetime when I found out I was pregnant with LO#2, so I would like to join again to loose those last few pounds.

  • I've never used Weight Watchers but I lost 30 pounds using myfitnesspal which is free.

  • I am doing it currently and have been successful.  I am currently 3 pounds from being a lifetime member.  I meet in a group at work and everyone is very supportive and encouraging!  I like having that support system and an easy plan to stick to.

  • I used WW and Sparkpeople. I lost about 20lbs on sparkpeople and 30 lbs on WW. Personally I found WW to be much easier then counting calories. Not to mention all fresh fruits and most fresh vegetables are 0 points, so it has definately taught me to reach for healthier options.

  • Before I was pregnant I did WW for over 4 years, lost 70 pounds and kept it off for two and was at goal weight when I conceived.  It is absolutely worth it and helps you learn how to eat properly.
  • I did WW and lost 56 pounds in 9 months. I was lifetime and kept the weight off for 2 years before I got pregnant.
I gained weight after DS was born and tried sparkpeople, but it didn't work for me. I started back with WW 3 weeks ago and have already lost 6 lbs. I feel like going to meetings keeps me accountable.

  • I did it before kids and had success, but I find I just don't have time to log my food each day now and I get behind and lose motivation. Also, they changed the plan so you can't go below a certain number of points, which was about 5 points per day higher than the plan had me eating when I was losing weight before. I think if you are close to a healthy goal weight that it might not help as much as if you have more to lose. I've heard really good things about sparkpeople if you want to try something to see if you are ok with tracking food everyday etc. The deal doesn't get much better than free! Oh, I also find the WW site a little finicky and the app doesn't always update to the one I use online, which was frustrating.
  • I love it! I've been working out and monitoring food on sparkspeople, but the scale just stopped. I'm nursing so I was wondering how that complicated things. Weight Watchers gives you the option to take nursing into account, which I find very helpful. I find it so much easier than sparkspeople. The points don't correlate directly to calories as much as I previously thought they would. It's pretty interesting to me. I've been doing the online program for 3 days now and the scale is down a pound, so moving again in the right direction. I'm very glad I signed up. I have 20lbs to lose. I've always been skinny and still 'see' myself that way, so it's frustrating to have none of my clothes fit. I'll do whatever it takes!

  • Weight Watchers is the only program that has ever worked for me. I lost twenty pounds in eight months. It definitely kept me in check and made me look at portion control and healthier options. Highly recommend!
