We recently moved our toddler to a big bed. We went and picked out sheets together talked about moving to a big bed etc etc. the first night was horrible- for 3 hours we put LO back in bed, fell asleep then did it all over again at 1am
im not a fan of the next thing we tried but its keeping LO in bed with little fights now. My dh reversed te doorknobs so we could lock the door from the outside. We don't keep it locked all night. LO cries for under 5 minutes in bed and falls asleep. I'm starting to worry though as she notices the door is locked. We try to give her chances to stay in bed but she gets out every time.
advice so we can avoid this? I'm really not trying to be mean to her but she is very strong willed and I'm almost 7 month pg with a DH that works many evenings thru the week.
Thanks
Re: Crib to toddler bed advice
We close our son's door and he doesn't know how to turn the knob, so essentially we're doing the same thing. I don't feel bad about it because if he really gets upset and won't relax, we go back in for a minute, but for the most part it's the only thing that shows him we mean business - it's bedtime and coming out of your room isn't an option. He will mess around in there for quite awhile sometimes with books, or walking around, but he can't come out.
Another option would be to open the door and put a baby gate in her doorway if she wouldn't be able to get over it.

This is us too. We shut the door and DD can't open it. I'm not sure what we'll do when she figures out how to turn the knob, but I kind of like your H's idea of locking it from the outside! I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as you know LO is safe and don't leave them screaming and crying in there for any length of time.

How old is she? Maybe she's not quite ready for a big bed. I think locking her in is perfectly fine if she won't stay in bed. Another option is a gate, but some kids just stand there and cry, so that might not be any better.
