Right now I am registered for both the Moby and the Ergo carriers. I am interested in baby-wearing as much as possible and my thought was that my husband might be more comfortable wearing the Ergo.
Do you think I should register for both or just one? Any other products that people have found helpful with baby wearing?
Re: Moby and/or Ergo for Baby-Wearing
Different carriers are better depending on what you're looking for. The ergo is definitely more "dad-friendly". The moby is more comfortable, to me, but be aware that the fabric is very warm. It was great for my son, who was born in the northeast in February, but once summer came it was too warm.
Woven wraps work just like the moby but they are less warm and can be used for back carried as well. I love my wovens and still use them frequently with DS.
Ring slings are also a great option. Theyre snugly like the moby, but easier to put on and more breathable.
I love my ergo for over 6 months (when you can use it without the insert), but I hated the Moby- it is hot and not easy to get on quickly (especially when the baby is fussing). However, I LOVE my ring slings for the first 6 months- it is comfortable and easy to use and you can get it in different weights. I had a lightweight one in the summer which was lovely in the heat.

We used the Baby K'tan, which is very similar to the moby in the way it holds the baby but MUCH easier to put on and take off. It takes seconds and it is sized so you get a good fit each time. I also have a moby but it took forever to wrap it and I had to unwrap/rewrap it several times to get a good fit. The Baby K'tan is also much less fabric so you don't get so hot and sweaty. I recommend the Baby K'tan to everyone. I used it literally every single day from the time my LO was two weeks to four months and used it occasionally beyond four months.
I hear the Ergo is great but that it's not super comfortable to hold newborns in. I think nothing beats a stretchy wrap for brand new little ones since they are so snuggly and keep the baby very warm and close to you. Even if you I have a Beco Butterfly and I don't really like it that much. I tried my friend's Ergo and liked it much better so I don't think you could go wrong with an Ergo.

The Ergo didn't work for me, DD hated it, and I mean HATED it. In the Miby she would fall right to sleep. In the Ergo she would scream bloody murder!
I also suggest the infant insert for the ergo. Some people don't care for it, but I couldn't have used it so soon w/out the insert.
I actually received both as gifts for my DD's birth and used neither of them!! I had the newborn insert for the Ergo but because I'm short (5'2") it was so uncomfortable and hung too low on me AND went up in my throat. The moby intimidated me as a FTM b/c I was so afraid to wrap it wrong and drop the baby.
This time (even though I already have two carriers...haha), I bought a bamboo wrap carrier by Lovey Duds on Etsy. It's very breathable, hypoallergenic, and seems to be a good combination of the Ergo and moby. AND it comes with a DVD of instructions. Because this is my 2nd baby, I will HAVE to wear my newborn more, and I feel most comfortable with this choice. I also liked the Mei Tei, but chose Lovey Duds over it b/c of price.
