Toddlers: 24 Months+

pooing in the potty suggestion from dr.

yesterday we went to the doc b/c I was sure DS had an ear infection. He was super sweet at the dr. I honestly don't know who's kid I had yesterday, but it wasn't mine! anyway...one of his ears is starting to get infected and I took the chance to ask her about getting him to poop in the potty. She said some toddlers don't feel like its "safe" to poo in the potty and that getting him to shake glitter in the toilet "makes it safe." We are gonna try it over the weekend but I am a little skeptical. I am also so tired of cleaning it out of his underwear that I'll try anything. He won't even step foot in the bathroom if he has to poop. Sad

Re: pooing in the potty suggestion from dr.

  • Have you tried moving a small potty out of the bathroom and seeing if they poop somewhere other than the bathroom? Do you catch him in the act of pooping ever? I can tell if my toddler is pooping and used to whisk her to the potty and she would finish there.

Prizes for pooping? Books specifically about pooping? like "Everybody Poops"?

You've probably tried most everything. I don't know about the glitter thing but maybe? What about stickers ON the wall next to the toilet to play with while he poops? My toddler needs to read a book while she poops and that helps.

  • I second the book! I actually sat and read for 20 minutes or more to my 2 year old while he tried to poop. He was having problems and finally did after 4 books but it relaxed him.
  • Have you explained what poops is? I've heard that some toddlers see poop as part of themselves and are scared of flushing it. Maybe explain why people poop.
