Re: 3 weeks post...steri strips

  • Do you ONLY have steri strips? I had staples first, then strips. I don't remember how long I kept the strips. I know they took the staples out one week PP.

It is a little scary to take them off when the incision still looks so fresh, but if the doctor says it's okay, then it's okay. They'll start to look gross (ends start to curl up, etc) just from clothes rubbing against them, moving around, showering - then you'll probably want to take themoff.

  • I still had them on at my 3 w pp visit.  I was TERRIFIED to remove them.  They hurt like a mother.  I figured if they hurt that badly they were pulling on my skin and could rip my incision open.

I ended up having my hand forced to remove them because it turns out I am allergic to something in the adhesive.  I itched like CRAZY!!

I was glued, not stapled or stitched and had the steri strips.  I felt just like you...

  • I had internal stitches and steri strips. Mine fell off so I waited for my OB to take them off. I have had other surgeries where I took them off and my wound was not ready (even though it was the correct amount of time). Thats just my opinion.

  • UGH!  MY OB used glue (my scar is amazing!).  I was to afraid to peel it off in fear I'd peel the scab off too & open the incision.  Finally, the day before my 6 PP apt, I went ahead & rubbed it all off in the shower in fear my OB would make fun of me, but I had no clue!  I asked her about it, and she said "oh, yeah, I need to be better about telling my patients about that - it can come off around 2 weeks".  UGH!  This is totally gross, but the glue got super gross &  I'd have underwear & sweat pant lint stuck to it.  Thanks doc.  :)

THAT WAS ME with my second C/S! i have never heard of anyone else being allergic to the strips and neither had my OB so they thought I was nutty. They were itched and then finally after 3 weeks I took them off and had huge welts where each strip had been.

This was me too! I took mine off after a week b/c the allergic reaction was so bad. My skin bubbled up under the strips and was slowly peeling off with the strips. I soaked them in the shower and they just came off. The only indication I have 6 weeks pp that I had a c-section is the purple scar left by those strips! Awful.

  • I had a reaction to the adhesive that was on the dressing they used after surgery.  It was removed after about 24 hours but left an awful rash.  My OB said to remove the steri strips after 2 weeks, otherwise they get gummy.  I removed half of them yesterday in the shower but it was too painful to get the rest off.  I decided to try baby oil today and the remaining ones practically fell off.

  • I had only steri strips. I kept them on for 2 weeks I think and they came off in the shower.

I would want them off- need to clean that area and let it breath and heal.
