A generic for Similac Sensitive?

DS is currently in the NICU and they are feeding him Similac Sensitive. I am wondering if there is a generic brand that is similar, as I am getting the sense name brand formulas are more expensive. Thoughts?

  • We use Target's sensitive formula and he does great on it. I would talk to your pedi though, before you switch, especially since you had nicu time.

  • I tried the parents choice (walmart) substitute for similac sensitive and it made my son extremely constipated and I had to switch back.  I have heard good things about the Target brand so after his next pediatrician appt (tuesday)  I think I am going to give that one a try.  I was so sad when my son was soooo uncomfortable the last time I tries a substitute, so I am hesitant, but the generic brands are SO MUCH CHEAPER!  It's a tough call.  I will let you know how the Target brand goes, but all babies are different according to my pediatrician, so really trial and error is the only way to truly know and it sucks to but the little ones through that!
  • Have you signed up for the similac coupons on their website? They send you a bunch of $5 off ones to help with the cost. I have found when I combine those with a decent sale it's actually cheaper then the generic version.

Just wondering do they keep sending those coupons or is it just a one time thing? If they do keep sending them how often do they send them?

Initially I received about 10? Every once in awhile I will get something in the mail about LO's development and it'll have 2-3 in there. Then I signed my DH up and received another 10, and my mom recently signed up so she should be getting hers soon.

  • They sell a super larger size at SAMs and costco that is cheaper per serving than buying the smaller size with a coupon if you know someone with a membership you might want to look at that.

  • We also love Targets up and up brand. I have found that the target brand is less bubbly and W doesn't get constipated when compared to how he did on similac sensitive powder. We use our similac coupons to buy the premade sensitive bottles to use when we are running errands and such.

  • We use generic formula but just pick it up wherever we're shopping. Most generics are made by the same manufacturer.
  • Dd used the target generic.  Like pp said, it wasn't nearly as bubbly as similac.
