What irks you? NBR

One of my biggest pet peeves is people's disregard for my furniture.  Now, I do not have a $3000 couch or anything, but I did work hard to pay off the furniture that I have and to keep it nice.  Then I have friends over who let their children run and jump on my furniture and wear their shoes on my couch! Or I have my FIL over who thinks it is okay to sit on the armrest of my chair, at a nice hefty weight of 250 pounds, I am not okay with this. Did I miss a memo?  Is this normal behavior?  I was not raised to do that on other people's furniture.

Ahhh vent over.  What is a pet peeve of yours?

  • That's annoying! Have you asked them to please take off their shoes/don't sit their asses on your arm rest?

A lot of things irk me. Most recently, the "You look tired" phrase. Oh okay, thanks for telling me I look like shiit politely.

Yeah, they usually get it when I say, "Oh sweetie, we don't want you to fall and get hurt."  or when I scold my son and say "We DON"T jump on the couch in this house."  As far as FIL, I just politely said, "Why don't you just make yourself comfortable and have a seat on the couch :)"  Honestly, it just annoys me that I should have to say anything.

And yeah, "You look tired" is an annoying comment!

yes, people misusing my furniture is a huge pet peeve!   we have my grandmother's dining table and chairs in our dining room, which we use a lot, and lately both DH and his mother seem to think these very old chairs are rocking chairs!   I haven't had the heart to ask a 72 yr old, size 2X woman to please stop rocking back and forth in the antique chair...she doesn't get the hint when I ask if she'd be more comfortable in the rocking chair in the other room!!

I guess that is baby related.

Another pet peeve is how people (MIL in particular) think no topic is off limits anymore.  I don't want you asking (or thinking!) about my body parts, thanks!

NBR pet peeve would be people who wait until they put food in their mouth to say something.   DH and MIL talk to each other this way, it's actually kind of funny.   When she's not around, I do correct him, but when she's here, I don't.  It's like their own little muffled language.   And if one of them chokes, oh well.  I certainly won't let LO get away with it, when that day comes!

THIS.  Cashiers at THE GROCERY STORE ask if I'm breast-feeding.  In my head I go "REALLY?  Is it any of YOUR business what I do with MY boobs?"  I don't mind when people I actually know ask, but it's bizarre when cashiers think it's any of their business.  One also asked if I had an episiotomy.  Breastfeeding questions at least kind of make sense, asking about my lady bits? Totally out of the question. I almost flipped my lid.
