Baby Names

Does this first name/last name sound ok together?

We just found out we are having a boy!  i have been thinking of names for a while now. my husband and i both really like this name but i am a little concerned about if it works with our last name.  on one hand i think it does and on the other hand i don't think so......

Dean Conal (last name rhymes with:) Beamer

Middle name has family meaning.

Does Dean Beamer sound good to you?

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

  • Sounds fine. I really like Dean.
  • Yes, it does work.  It has assonance (a repeated vowel sound), which actually makes names sound nice together, I think.  If it had a true embedded rhyme (as you would find in "Dean Beaner") I would say it would not work so well.  But Dean Beamer is fine.

  • Looks like I'm in the minority but I'm not liking the sound of it.

I agree. It's a little almost rhymey to me with "ea" sound in both names.

  • I don't care for the similar sounds. Is Dean an important name to you guys or just something you like? If it doesn't have special meaning, I would probably rethink it.

  • The name is NMS, but it's fine.

BTW, I graduated high school with a guy named Dean. His NN was Dino. I think that it had started in elementary school and it just kinda stuck. Hopefully, your son doesn't get stuck with this silly NN. ;)

  • I was thinking "Beamer is a really weird middle name" lol, then my slow mind came around. Sounds good to me!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! This.

I like Dean, but Dean Beamer doesn't flow nicely and there is a tendency to want to say Deaner Beamer.

  • Although I like the name Dean, I don't care for the flow of the first and last names. I would recommend choosing a FN that doesn't have the letters "ea".
