diastasis recti

Has anyone dealt with this postpartum? if so, how long before your ab muscles were "back together". I'm going to PT for it and wearing a brace which she told me I'd likely have to wear for several months except at night, especially since I have a very physical job.  Just wondering if anyone has a good success story

Re: diastasis recti

  • I had it, never went to PT or wore a belt though.  My youngest will be 3 in May.  I can still feel some seperation if I try, but for the most part they are back together.  I remember after birth my abs were 2-3 inches apart.  It gets better with time.

  • Mine were like that after DD2 and are completely split now. It never occurred to me to go to PT or get a brace or anything for it. My OB told me that it would require surgery for them to be put completely back together. I figure they'll get better with regular exercise and core work after baby comes.

Ditto the bolded. Mine tore, badly, with ds. My doctor suggested waiting to get them repaired once I was done having kids. Even though there is a gap between 1 and 2, it never healed. And that was with swimming over 10,000m (up tp 20k some weeks), running daily (10k daily) and doing weights and abs in between.

It absolutely depends on the damage. Most people can heal with exercise, and some can`t.
