Re: nursing

  • I waited for months to be able to enjoy my moms favorite enchiladas...they aren't spicy or anything, but when I ate them, for the next two days my DS had the worst gas he would wake up and cry out in pain:( Never had the issue before or after. No more enchiladas for me:(

  • I eat everything I normally would, but I've cut back on caffeine (1-2 a day) and spicy foods (1-2 times per week). If I drink, which is almost never, I stick to 1-2 drinks. When I nursed DS, I would notice he would get fussy after I ate a lot of spicy food. This time I've cut back on milk. I normally drink a lot of milk. DD was spitting up a lot so I cut back and she's been much better.

  • Not eating veggies? Seriously?! That sounds completely bizarre to me you cant be healthy and have a varied diet if you arent eating veggies. I eat everything and have never had an issue. I limit alcohol to about 1/2 a glass though.
  • I limit chocolate bc too much makes her gassy. I also watch for broccoli and limit alcohol to one glass 1-2x a week. I already don't drink caffeine.

  • My DD is 5 months and I still cannot drink coffee! Even if I have just a little bit, it gives her horrible gas... I also limit my dairy. I can eat pretty much anything else though.

  • DS's pedi recommended I take Beano before eating any veggies that cause gas DS was having a similar problem. It works like a charm! I personally think it is important to eat a healthy dietincluding veggies while BF'ing. You might ask you pedi about it so you can incorporate veggies again!

  • I've noticed that LO was very fussy after I ate eggs on multiple occasions, so I'm steering clear of those.

Other than going easy on booze, I'm eating whatever else I want.

I've had to eliminate veggies. Every time I ate any she was so gassy and would cry. I keep reading it doesn't effect your milk but it happens everytime and lately since I eliminated it, she's been great.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this! I don't notice it with DD but with DS he would get really gassy whenever I ate broccoli.

teds1chic: I'm from Fort Myers. I live in Tampa now but my whole family still lives there so I go back every 6 weeks or so. :)

well thank your lucky stars then that your LO isn't bothered by anything. A lot of kiddos are.

I couldn't eat cauliflower or greek yogurt (though regular yogurt seemed to be fine).

  • I can't eat any kind of Mexican food or anything spicy or really seasoned. It gives him really bad gas and I think spicy stuff burns his little butt because he would only cry when he farted or pooped not like he had gas but like it would hurt to do wither. Other than that I just limit to 1 caffinated drink and only have 1 alcoholic drink every now and then.

  • In my experience, no. I was actually just researching this topics because my LO was SO gassy at night. I read a lot on the Kelly Mom website (Google it, it's a gold mine of reliable info) and they pretty much refuted the idea that certain foods can make a baby gassy. Their reasoning was that if we all knew what made babies gassy, none of us would eat it! In addition, there are many other cultures that use a lot of the foods we think irritate LOs' tummies (like curry, for instance) and they don't stop eating it. Of course, I'm sure there are exceptions but it was a load off my mind.

In the end, I came to the realization that I have an overactive letdown and oversupply which was making him cough and choke, hence the gas. Could this be an issue for you too?
