Baby Names

Senara

Ok. Let me have it ladies...what do you think of:

Senara Louise Smith

Senara means "light" which is a meaning we like; Louise is for both of our grandmothers, and the last name is very close to Smith and usable for "trying it on." I have an aversion to popular names Jennifer of the 70's and wanted something unique but not awkward. Anyhoo, what do you think?
Lil'mamaz was born on Aug 21, 2014! She's PERFECT!

How is Senara pronounced? Sen-arr-ah or Sen-air-ah?

I don't mind either pronunciation but it does make me think of "sayonara".

  • Not terrible. I'd pronounce it Sen AR a...sorry mobile bumping. Kind of sounds like a name brand drug you'd see a commercial for.

  • Yeah, I think you can find middle ground between Jennifer and this name. It does sound like a cross between sienna and sayonara.

Yeah, there's actually a menthol smelly lotion called Sarna. It reminds me of that.

To be honest, no ones going to know how to pronounce it and people are going to misspell it. This is worse that having a common name in my opinion. I know how bad it is because my Mom has a name that was made up by my Grandma. Always mis pronounced, always mis spelled, she always had to spell it out and repeat herself. Perhaps try finding a name that's known but not in the top 100?

    this.

And what is the origin of the name? I couldn't find it at all on Behind the Name.

  • It's not at all my style, but it's not so out there that I would look askance at it.
  • Thank you all for the honest and helpful feedback! I found thus on Nameberry dot com. Its been my go to site for naming....its a derivative of Helen or Eleanor and it is said to be part of a Cornish saint that was a mermaid turned Christian. Or something.

anyhow, I was mobile bumping in my first post...what I meant is my name is Jennifer...so not a fan of popular names. Not considering that for this baby.

my biggest worry is people not being able to pronounce it or spell it, and you all helped to show those would be problems, so thank you! Back to the drawing board :

We get the gender in two weeks, so I may just relax until then...if its a boy, we are all set! Elliot, Vincent, Montgomery, Arno Finding a girl name has been rough...thanks again for your honest and gentle feedback!
