Babies: 6 - 9 Months

BLW

My LO is only 5 months, but I am begining to research and start planning for her once she is on solids. I want to skip cereals and purees mostly and do BLW. However, I'm a tad nervous for her doing this at daycare because of choking. Has anyone else done BLW while their LO was in daycare? Would it be okay for her to do a puree once a day while there? My daycare provider loves making purees out of mixed fresh foods, so I feel good about what she would be eating, just wondering if it would be confusing for her to sometimes be spoon fed with purees and at other times feed herself... Thanks for your thoughts!

Re: BLW

  • The book says that's okay.  Me, I'm just going to have her do bottles at daycare for now, and food at home.

  • You don't necessarily have to start out offering 3 meals a day of solids, so you could just offer food at home at first. By the time she actually needs 3 meals a day she'll probably be much better at feeding herself and it might not be an issue.

That said, I've given my daughter purees a few times and it doesn't seem to make a difference except that I think she prefers feeding herself.

  • Great, thanks so much for your thoughts! I'm really excited to start solids next month!
  • We did BLW but my daycare wouldn't do table foods until LO was 8m, so we just did BLW at home and bottles at daycare. The day LO turned 8m, we started him on table foods at DC as well and he gets 2 meals and a snack there now and dinner with us.
