Yep, it is easy once you get a routine established. The CD board is pretty helpful if you run into any issues. I have mostly AIOs or pockets in the one size, and we used almost only AIOs for the NB stage. There is a good general FAQ on the cd board to start out with as well! Definitely doable, we have saved tons using CDs, even with getting "nicer" diapers.

I CD but didnt start until they were able to fit into the OS pockets. I had bought the whole NB setup with covers, etc but it proved to be too much those first few weeks and we had been gifted so many disposables we just used those. I switched to the CD about 3 weeks ago and it has been really easy. I have to buy more since I only have enough to get me through one day right now but since we are using Alvas they are pretty cheap.

I CD my boys and started as soon as their circs were healed at about 1 week old due to using Vaseline per the doctor's instructions (aka not CD friendly).
I am using prefolds with a snappi and then the Thirsties Duo covers. My husband was very reluctant but he is all about them now... you'd think our boys were giving him money with each diaper he changes because he keeps mentioning with how many diapers we go through he can't believe how little our stash cost compared to what DDs would be costing us.
We do it! It's totally doable and I think it's just as easy as using disposables. I don't have any tips that haven't already been given but I second the idea of checking out the cloth diapering board. Congrats on your pregnancy and good luck!

Sure do. We attempted as NB, but with being pretty tiny at birth certain diapers didn't fit very well. I actually rented my newborn stash from a company I found online. Best decision--saved a ton since I didn't purchase them and it made me feel better since it didnt always work like I had hoped. Now we are in One size pockets. I will say that the Velcro diapers fit us better than the snaps. We do still use sposies as night. We save a ton, even though initially it is a small investment.
We do also! We have the BG Freetimes which are one size so we didn't start until they were about 8 weeks. We do disposables at night and when we are going out for the day but we have saved so much money it's ridiculous! It was a big investment up front but I wouldn't do it any other way. We also did a 'registry' with our local CD store and they had rewards program so after we bought all of our diapers (and got a few as gifts) we earned a 50.00 gift certificate that we used to buy the accessories.
Another vote for the CD board. We CD'd #1 starting a couple weeks in and we intend to CD the twins once the cords fall off/they fit into prefold & covers. We already have the experience of doing it with our first (singleton) so we have a little edge in that aspect, but it did turn out easier than I thought it would at the time. We switched to pockets once she was a few months old and she'd been in those since.
Lots of moms try it and love it and lots try it and hate it. There are places that do trials that you can sign up for without the full expense right away. GL!
Thanks ladies. Do you have recommendations on how much to purchase?
I would say to get AT LEAST 36 diapers per "size" if you're going to get a NB and OS stash. 40 would be even better. And washing past every 36 hours is hard for me to stretch out. We basically have a full load after a day and a half.

We have about 30 AIOs and 5 Flip covers with 16 inserts, and that is plenty for our twins. We rented a "variety pack" for the NB stage to figure out what we liked, but my instincts were right - we like AIOs and Flips, hate pockets and fitteds.
My friends that have tried CDing and hated it were using a diaper service or didn't have a washing machine in their home - they had to use a washing machine in the basement of their apartment building or go to a laundromat. So just think about your set up and your personality and whether it seems practical. We live in a one-floor home and the laundry room is right next to the nursery, so it couldn't be easier for us.
Also don't feel like you have to use CDs 100% of the time - we use disposables at night and when we're traveling or going to be somewhere all day, and I have zero guilt about it. I don't think that disposables are harming the kids, I just think CDs are cheaper, cuter, and better for the environment, so I choose to use them MOST of the time.
Re: Cloth diapering
I started CDing when the boys were about 6 months old. I'm honestly not sure I could have handled the work when they were NBs.
I second hitting the CD board - the FAQs are very helpful.
