Question for radian owners

Does your child's neck seem to not have much support in this seat?  I have one that I've used since DD was 9 months old.  We also own a britax blvd, and bought the radian bc she had hip surgery and it was the only seat she could safey sit in during the recovery process.

I solely bought it for that reason but it turns out I've been really happy with it and think its a great seat overall.  I just notice when DD falls asleep in it her head winds up in a terrible position.  This doesn't happen with our other seat, I think because the head support also adjusts up and down with the harness.  The radian is so high that the top of her head is just barely to the head wings.  She's sat in in both RF and FF with the same result.  Doesnt seem to bother her but it just looks like it cant be comfortable for a long trip.  Any tips?

Re: Question for radian owners

  • Head slump is normal and okay, it's not exclusive to the Radian. If your dd is on the third harness slot or above, you can adjust the headwings for her, otherwise it has to be all he way up. If your having trouble adjusting it, there are two styrofoam squares hidden behind the Velcro flap at the side where the headwings meet the seat, on the inner part of the seat. Open the Velcro, and reach in, you'll feel the foam, pull it out. I'll see if I can get on the laptop and get a picture.

  • Thanks, I can see if I can do that.  I know it's normal but this is terrible looking! It could even just be the angle of the seat bc her head always ends up completely forward with her chin against her chest- seems like it would be hard to breathe like that.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I've been using it correctly then. I need to move DD2 up a slot anyway, so I'll have to check.

I've found that every single seat causes head slump in the forward facing position. (The one exception seems to be DD1's high back boosters, but they have much larger head wings than a convertible.) Rear facing it seems to depend on how DD chooses to position her head. Rear facing is usually much better than forward facing for head slump though.

  • I agree the reclined position while rearfacing lends itself to better head position, but we have this issue in rearfacing too with the radian.  Just figured I'd see whatothers experienced  since this seat gets a lot of love on this board.  I like the seat but this is one major complaint of mine.
