My LO has some really bad gas... I mean she can clear a room. Poor thing when people want to hold her I have to do the whole disclaimer of "sorry she has really bad gas so if you smell it, she's not dirty".
Anyway, I can't figure out what to do for her. Sometimes she screams in pain and a few seconds later she will toot. I give her gas drops but they really don't seem to do much of anything. I don't know what is making her so gasy. I am breastfeeding and at nbight she gets a formula bottle at 10 when she goes down and then again at 2 or 3 when she wakes up.
When I started the formula I started with the Similac sensitive and gasy formula. One because they sent it to me as a sample and two, because I thought a breastfed baby might have some problems with formula so it seemed logical to me to give her something designed for sensitivity... that is when the gas started! So, after about a week (I tried to give it time for her to get used to it) I switched her to the Similac Advantage formula because it says it is closest to breastmilk. I tried this for about a week and the gas continued. Both of these formulas are milk based.
My MIL suggested maybe I try a soy formula that it could possibly be the milk upsetting her stomach. Two nights ago I switched to soy but the gas continues. I'm sure it will take a little bit for the soy to set in to see if that helps the issue.
Has anyone else had these problems? Any suggestions as to what else other than gas drops I can do to help the gas?
Re: Really BAD gas
Broccoli onions cabbage and many more are causes of gas, then dairy soy...on and on. The only thing babies are ment to have is breast milk and we have to be careful in what we eat. This includes careful with nuts honey strwberries. Nuts can cause gas, and allergies, never give honey to an infant, strawberries are nuts and exagerate allergies and food sensivities. One food our health system has totaly backwards is soy! Its in everything its a cheap filler. Look how the people where it came from prepare it. They ferment it and then use it. Its the only way our bodies can digest it. I didnt know this and went through a fase when i couldnt handle dairy so i switched to soy, your body will develop an allergy to it, as did mine. Now I have to be very careful of foods containing soy or im a stomach cramped doubled over gassy in pain mess. Some forms of soy give me breathing difficulties as well. I would never suggest soy for an infant. Its too dangerous.
Try 100% breast milk and careful of what you eat. Mostfast food has soy in it, carefull with greesy foods. Its sucks to be limited but for the sake of better air, babies comfort give it a go. Last night i sauteed onions which I love dearly, all three of us had gas it was terrible, lo was fussy and my husband w stiking upthe place and laughing. Im going to have to lighten up or give up onions for some time. Noooooooooo.
