UPDATED: Please pray for our embryos. Just got bad news.

We've known all along that we had five donated embryos, but never knew the quality or real solid details on them. I've asked our clinic about the quality a few times, but the RE said he wasn't sure (and didn't thumb through our 100+ pages of faxed documentation) but it didn't matter since "they made it to freeze" which is a reassuring good thing. Our donor thought they were all day 5 blasts, but she didn't know for sure either so I left it at and decided I wouldn't worry.

Well, today I got a call from the lab. Apparently of the five, only one is a day 6 blast that had been originally thawed at day 1, grown to a blast then refrozen. The other four are all only day-one zygotes right now. Oh my god. I honestly could just cry at my desk.

The lab person suggested we thaw all four zygotes today, watch them grow and she will have an update for me on them on Saturday. And we will thaw the day 6 blast on the day of our transfer on Monday and pray for the best. She said had no idea what to expect for us since these were frozen over ten years ago and the day 6 will have been frozen twice now. I begged her to take extra special care of them and she promised she would.

I'm terrified. I could use prayers for these embryos. I feel like I will need to be institutionalized if none of them make it to transfer.

Feb 8 UPDATE:

I got a call from the lab this morning which scared the bejeepers out of me because I wasn't expecting for an update until tomorrow. All four survived the thaw! The lab worker was "quite surprised and impressed" at how well three of them were doing considering their age. She said three were dividing "beautifully" but the fourth had not started dividing yet. She said that fourth one wasn't out of the race and may just be a slow grower. I'll get another update tomorrow. I just wanted to share the news. Sorry for being a PW! I could jump and and down for joy!

Ugh I am so sorry this is happening!!! FWIW I was in a similar boat as far as refeezing and all. I had all of my eggs frozen initially then thawed and ICSI'd when we finally got a good sample. 3 fertilized normally and were frozen day 1 as I started to prepare my lining and all for an FET. All 3 survived the thaw and they were zygotes. One did not continue to grow but the other 2 did and on day 3 one was graded "good," one "average." Things did not end well for me as you know but RE says we may have just been on the wrong side of the odds. At least you have one rockstar already and I would be hopeful that out of the other 4, you would get more because I did and I just had 3. I am keeping my FX for you!! IF is so stressful!!!!

And, I may be grasping at straws here, but is it unrealistic to think that the zygotes could end up being rock stars?

Definitely not unrealistic, but the lab person said she wasn't sure what to expect because they were frozen over 10 years ago with a different type of freezing technology. I'm just praying thats the outcome, hence the plea for prayers. It didn't sound like the lab person was optimistic though, hence my worry.

I'm so sorry you got this news! That must have definitely been a shock! I will just be praying that they grow beautifully and that you have some good quality embryos to transfer.
