Weight loss while BF'ing - going too fast.....

Anyone else have the issue of "losing too fast"? Lost 12.5 lbs in 2 months, doesn't seem like a lot but WW thinks so.

WWYD?? DS is heathy and has doubled his BW already and I am BF'ing 98% of the time.

Repost from H & E board....

TIA!

Re: Weight loss while BF'ing - going too fast.....

  • Well.... I don't know how old your LO is so doubling his BW doesn't mean much to me (no snark intended there).

But yeh, I guess I had something similar. I wasn't losing much (if any) weight after leaving the hospital all the way through the first 6wks PP. I had been eating like I was pregnant and before my GD dx (so anything and everything I wanted). I decided I could stand to just start following my GD diet again, good carbs only, scarce desserts, etc. And I lost about 20lbs in less than a month!

Anyway, so now I'm back to eating anything and everything I want. I (was- before I bought two packs of oreos thanks to NinaMarie) still try not to eat as much dessert as I am normally inclined to though.

The weight is not coming off or coming back on, so I'm happy. Smile

I'd just make sure you're eating enough. It sounds like your on WW, but if you think you're losing too much, maybe you don't need to be... or you need to talk to one of their representatives about upping your daily calorie needs. BFing can burn anywhere from 500-800 calories! You need to be eating plenty of good carbs (whole wheat/whole grain/brown rice, etc) and proteins! And make sure you're still taking your prenatal vitamins. Maybe even adding in a slimfast shake or a glass of milk.

Either way, I really don't think 12.5lbs in 2 months is out of line or unreasonable or unhealthy. Unless you were already at the "perfect" weight for your body type. If you could stand to lose some weight, then more power to you.

ETA: I see your siggy now. I was either not fully awake yet today or it finally showed up!

  • Thanks Rachael. I don't think 12.5 is also out of line and I am nowhere near my "perfect" weight which is between 139-169lbs for someone my height (5'9). My diet has actually been mostly carbs, don't really have the time or energy to start picking foods atm.

Hoping the lbs keep falling off as long my supply isn't affected.

    Thanks again.

  • L is 3 months today. I gained 23 lbs while pregnant and I'm down 30 lbs since my last pregnancy weight. I've put no effort in yet, it's all from breastfeeding. It's pretty awesome.
  • I lost 40 lbs in the first 2 months. I am a little below my prepregnancy weight, but I honestly could stand to lose somemore. It is coming off really slow now, though. Hopefully it will pick back up now that R is almost 3 months.

  • I don't think that's too much.  I lost all 24 pounds I gained from pregnancy and another 12 pounds.  This put be back at what I wanted to be as I was a little heavier for myself when I got pregnant.  I'm eating better, walking and BF.
