Just stopping by to offer weight worry reassurance

I'm (about) to start ttc #2, #1 is 14 months old and I am now below the weight I was at last time I ttc. I've never been over weight, usually exactly in the middle of BMI, but with getting pregnant I was worried about how gaining weight would affect me emotionally. I know it's good for the baby, but it can still be hard to see those numbers climb (and once after a 6 hr car ride and lots of water retention) my Dr even lectured me about it. I ate well through out my pregnancy and was regularly active with daily 2-4 mile walks/hikes and weekly tai chi. I still gained 50 lbs. I ebf'd my baby for the first 7 months and have continued since starting table foods with her. My diet and exercise stayed the same. I lost weight steadily but slowly until the last 10lbs which would not budge. I heard sometimes your body will hold onto a little extra if you're bf'ing just in case it needs it. Well I quit weighing myself. When DD turned one it was kind of like magic and I started shedding off a few pounds again (still no change to diet or exercise--both were healthy anyway) I am now 4 lbs below where I was (now 142lb, 5'8) and I honestly feel better about my body than ever in my life (and when I was a riding instructor and spending 4+ hrs in the saddle a day, I was down to 130). I honestly love the new curves and I really think part of my change in body image has come from really appreciating how much my body can do after going through pregnancy and labor.

Just wanted to offer something I would have appreciated when I was pregnant and hearing horror stories about babies "ruining" bodies. Congrats to everyone and I'm hoping you all have wonderful pregnancies :)

  • Well isn't that nice .........

PS- Everyone is different, some people lose right away and some aren't able to get it off without medical help. If weight  is a huge concern for a pregnant woman (for non medical reasons), she has her priorities twisted and needs help IMHO
