Swimsuits.

The other thread got me thinking about swimsuits for LO.

What are your thoughts on those bikinis they make for babies? Would you buy one? Do they bother you? or Do you think they are cute?

Re: Swimsuits.

  • We probably won't buy one for Cu.

I do think they're cute, but cynical and paranoid as it may be, I don't think I could put my baby or toddler in one.

Now for just as home in the backyard pool among family, sure.

But aside from that... why expose more skin to UV rays than you have to, KWIM?

  • I personally am bothered by them. I don't really know why... perhaps I feel they sexualize babies in a way....  babies don't have boobs!

This summer LO will have the ruffliest little girl swimsuit out there, because she is only a cute little innocent baby girl once!

  • Well I just asked dh if he cared if our dd wore a bikini and he said When? with attitude. lol He said no way. She will look adorable in a one piece.
We will not be buying her a bikini. It doesn't sit right with me. Today we live in a very different world and I would prefer her to be in a one piece for a very long time. lol
  • MY FAIR SkiINNED LIL REDHEAD WILL BE COVERED HEAD TO TOE IN uv SUITS... WELL she'll have a sleeved shirts and hat on.... poor lil miss

But i do hate the bikinis.. unless they are gingham and riffled... otherwise they are too much hahahaha

  • I think a two piece would make changing diapers easier, but I don't really care for the triangle top bikinis for babies.  They look too grown up.

I agree, I also want to get a cutesy ruffly swimsuit for L...there are some cute ones out there!

  • I thought they were cute until I had a daughter. LOL I already bought her swimsuit. Its a teal one piece with pink straps and a pink tutu.
ETA: Target has some two pieces, but the top is a rash guard tshirt type, like for surfing. I think that's totally acceptable and adorable.

  • I have already bought 3 bathing suits...all one pieces however I do think two pieces are more practical for babies, tankinis or the bottoms with the rash guard for the sale of diaper changes, a wet suit doesn't peel off a baby well....but as far as tiny triangle top I don't think we will have C wear one but I'm not against someone else's baby wearing them, I love a little baby belly!
  • I think the bikinis are adorable! However, we'll probably get Hallie a one piece.

  • I'm not a fan of bikinis for babies or little girls for the reasons stated above. We do use 2 piece rashguard and shorts type swimsuits though because they make diaper changes and potty visits so much easier.

  • Not a fan of bikinis at all - but I will only put my 2-year-old in the 2-piece rashguard sets.  Makes diaper changes and potty visits easy.  Plus she's super fair and the less area I need to worry about sunscreen the better,

  • M got several bathing suits at my shower ( they must have been on clearance when people were shopping in October) and someone bought her the triangle bikini kind. I hate it. It looks entirely too sexy for a baby imo and is impractical.
