Baby Names

Opinions on our girl name

My husband and I do not know what we are having and we have been trying for the longest time to come up with a girls baby name.. We have decided on Jiana jaymes pronounced (gee-ya-nah) what do you all think its pronounced the same as Giana but spelt with a J. What do you all think?

Re: Opinions on our girl name

  • I like the name Gianna. It's really nice, spelled like this only.

  • Think it would be pronounced correctly more often if it were spelled with a G.  Cute name!

  • Beautiful name and I think it will move nicely from a baby name to an adult name (Gia nickname, etc).  I prefer the G spelling also though.  I'm a stickler for proper spelling for many reasons though.

  • Beautiful name.  Prefer it with a G, unless intent is to give nn of JJ vs Gia
  • Thanks for the input! We have a tradition of having J names in the family soo I found the name Jiana online which apparently is said to be the American way of spelling giana (take that for what it's worth) my next question is.. If you didn't know better how would your be tempted to pronounce the name Jiana... Just so I can think this over better

  • Keeping to family tradition is key.  I would pronounce Jiana the same as Gianna unless you live in southwest (Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona) where the J is different consonant sound.
  • If it were spelled Jiana, I'd know how to pronounce it, but I'd make a ton of overall assumptions about you and your husband.

Please spell it properly. This reminds me of The Kardashians

  • I am (part) Italian-American and would not misspell a name from the native tongue of my ancestors.  There are so many nice J names that weren't made up by Americans trying to be uneek.

  • No.

Gianna is a beautiful name. Jiana and Giana are not.

  • I have a feeling most people will say it like Diana with a J. Just bad.

I really do love Gianna though.

  • I prefer it with a G. I would still pronounce it the same way but I would think it was sad that such a pretty name was misspelled.

  • Gianna is a nice name.  Jiana is horrible.  If you must use a J name, please find a nice J name and don't take another name and replace the first letter with a J.

  • I think it's pretty bad and Jaymes makes it even worse. If you really want a J name I would go with something else.

  • You could do Gianna G--- and call her Gigi.  OR just pick a real J name.

    What???

I've lived in 2 of the 3 place you named and have no idea WTF you're talking about.

OP-The name is spelled Gianna otherwise it looks made up. Spelling it Jiana makes it look like the parent(s) didn't know or didn't care how to spell it properly.

  • Gianna is beautiful as it spelled.  For a J-name with a similar sound I like Julianna.

  • Sorry, I don't like it one bit.

  • No. Find a true J name if you must keep doing J names. People will constantly misspell and mispronounce that poor little girl's name. Jaymes is terrible. Its taking a boys name, inserting a Y and trying to make it feminine. It doesn't work.

    Sorry :/

  • At the very least spell James correctly or pick a new middle name.
