Lanolin cream before delivery?

Have any of you used lanolin cream before you delivered?  It was a lifesaver after DS was born, but it took a few days to feel way better.  I was thinking of trying it the week before my scheduled c-section, figured it couldn't hurt, but thought I'd see if any of you have done this and what your results were.  TIA!

  • It's just an edible moisturizer. It's not going to do anything magical before you deliver. The best thing to do is just work hard on a good latch once the baby is here.

  • It does nothing really.  Your best bet is to make sure you have a good latch, and if you feel any discomfort at all, use lanolin after nursing, beginning with the first time.  That will help keep your nipples from chafing or cracking, but the latch is the most important part.

  • I don't think it would help.  However, I though MotherLove Nipple cream was a lot better than Lanolin.
  • I agree with PP....Lanolin cream didn't help sooth  my poor nips at all.  I LOVE Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter.  I got it on Amazon for $9, a little bit goes a long way!  I still have half a jar after using it for 7 months.
  • I used lanolin after DS1 was born, but learned a great trick.  Your own milk works just as well, if not better, it's free, and you don't have to worry about packing the tube.  Express a bit and rub it around concentrating on cracks or rough spots. Works like a miracle!  I also learned to use my milk on cuts or scrapes of DS1 & it worked better & more naturally than Neosporin! Who knew?

  • I would put in on once daily for almost 3 weeks before DS was born... and I can tell you 5 days in and my nips are still sore. And he has a great latch....
