Ava is here!! Our Crazy Birth Story

Our little Ava is here and we are in love. She already has daddy wrapped around her finger.

We were sent to L&d after my appointment Monday to be induced. Around 8pm I was given my first dose of Miso.  After a second dose four hours later I was only 2.5 cm.  At 8am I was still 2.5 cm but was feeling some contractions so I decided to take advantage of the nice big soaking tub in our room.  At that point my OB came in and said he had a CS but would get me ready for my epidural and break my water when he got back. At 9 I decided I would take a narcotic to help with the pain before I could get my epidural. I was still 2.5 cm. All of a sudden I had to really pee. Well they didn't want me to get up bc of the meds I just had. So they gave me a bed pan.  I could not pee but was in a lot of pain.  I was having so much pain at this point. They quickly realized I was pushing and checked me again and determined I was 10 cm with the head there. I went from 2.5 to 10 in 20 minutes. I was of course told it was too late for an epidural and needed to stop pushing. They weren't prepared for her yet. There wasnt a doctor in the room I of course start freaking out because it hurt and wanted an epidural. After I stopped hyperventilating and the doctor was ready (my normal OB) I pushed maybe three times and she was out. I did end up with an episiotomy because the scar tissue from my son's birth was not cooperating.

The crazy thing is they aren't 100% sure when my water broke because when they last checked me the water was gone. Its assumed it broke while I was in the tub, but the tub was clear. So they aren't 100% sure

After my fast delivery, my placenta didn't deliver on its own so after 30 mins the OB had to basically force it out. Not 100% sure of the details on this one but it was a lot more painful and a lot of tugging and pushing on my stomach.  Because of this I lost twice the amount of blood as a normal delivery, a liter.

All seemed well until we were getting ready to be transferred out of Labor & Delivery. I was told to use the bathroom before we moved. Lucily my nurse assisted me because all of a sudden my hearing went funny. She called a second nurse and I somehow passed out on the wheel chair they brought in. Next thing I know I'm back in bed with lots of extra nurses and Residents all around me. Eventually things calmed down after lots of craziness and fluids. Ava was sent to the nursery to warm up while I stayed in Labor & Delivery for another three hours to recover and sleep.

Almost six hours after Ava was born we were moved to our Family Suite. I was kept on pitocin for 24 hours and had my blood pressure and glucose numbers monitored closely. I was right at the point were I could have needed a transfusion, but luckily I didn't get one. They said its going to take about 60 days for my body to recover from the blood loss. Besides all of this all is well and we came home today.
