How many naps does you child take? Ds is almost 8 months old he take threesome times 2 . He can't be awake longer then 3 hours so it depends on how long his first nap is. I remember dd switched to two naps around 8 mo ths.
Not meaning to 'flame' you, OP, but i just don't get questions like this. Why does is matter to you how many naps my 8 month old takes? Do what works best for YOU and your LO, whether that's 5 naps, 3 naps, or 1 nap.
But, to be fair,I get the appeal of posting 'consensus' questions, so FWIW, my DS2 naps once or twice a day. He's never napped 3 times a day. And, seeing that he's my 3rd, he's got to be a little more 'go with the flow', so his naps depend a lot on my day/schedule/other LOs/etc.
just this week i am trying to cut out the evening nap... i am trying to shift the other two nap times around so we can make it through the evening time without one.

Ours transitioned down to two in the last couple of weeks, and with that, they grew a in length. He has also changed his bed time to about a half hour later. He used to take three, 20-40 min naps. Now he is in a room at daycare with a schedule that has really helped him (I think) with better napping...he now takes two, 1-hr naps.
Even though I don't base my parenting decisions by it, I like to know what other moms around DD's age are doing also. My 8 1/2 month old takes usually 3 naps, sometimes two. Like yours, she usually can't stay up longer than three hours.
Mine need 3, but usually take 2. It's like pulling teeth to get them to take a 3rd nap. Actually every nap routine is like pulling teeth, but the 3rd is the worst. When they don't take that 3rd nap, they tend to go to bed early.
DS naps for about an hour in the morning and 2 - 2 1/2 hours in the afternoon. He used to take a 3rd nap for about 45 min in the late afternoon/early evening but we cut that out and moved his bedtime up by 1/2 hour.
