When do you decide talking or just babbling?

in Babies: 6 - 9 Months

So LO has been babbling for a while now and she usually does a "mamama-bababa" combo. Recently she has been just saying 'mama' if she wants me to pick her up or when she's crying and wants me. And now if I ask her to say 'mama' she says it back to me.

Is there a point where I can be like "OMG SHE SAID HER FIRST WORD!"

    ha! i am wondering the same thing... i swear he says mama when he wants/needs me... or it could just be whatever sound is coming out of his mouth when he gets a little fussy...

    DS still doesn't say mama, even in babbling. However, he will get into fussing/preaching mode and just rail at me in babbles sometimes. I try to envision what he must be fussing about, and it cracks me up. "Oh my gosh, Mom. I can't believe you've been adulterating my bananas with vegetables! And seriously, this tummy time thing is for the birds! I want to be standing up all the time, and it is your job to help me!"

    This made me LOL, I always joke with DH about what he's trying to say because DS yells at us. He'll go from babbling to YELLING, esp when he's tired, he does it to fight falling asleep.

    It's a word when it's intentional and consistent.
