In the town I live in most of the houses were all built over 100 years ago. I bought my 2 bdrm. 1 bath, 1300 sq ft house for $80,000 but they are going closer to $100-110K now. In the town where I work the houses are more expensive but extremely cheap compared to what they were in the Bay Area where I used to live.
Here is what they are going for by my work and where we want to move to before DS starts school.
5 bdrm 4 bath 3300 sq ft $439,900
3 bdrm 3 bath 2300 sq ft $345,000
2 bdrm 2 bath 1500 sq ft. $217,000
2 bdrm 2 bath 1200 sq ft condo $125K
This is what you get for $100K around here.

Prices vary a lot depending on neighborhood, so for an attempt at apples to apples, these are all in the same zip code.
$160,000: a vacant lot
$380,000: 2 bd 2 ba, 1163 sq ft condo, built 2008
$489,000: 2 bd 1.5 ba, 1263 sq ft., built 1900.
$950,000: 4 bd 3 ba, 3258 sq ft, built 1930
1,200,000: 4 bd 4 ba, 4300 sq ft, built 1912
Most expensive house currently for sale in my zip $786,000
4 bed, 4 bath, 3,000 sq ft, 1/3 of an acre
Average home in my area: $310,000
4 bed, 3 bath, 2,000 sq ft, 1/4 acre lot
Least expensive on the market in my zip: $26,000
2 bed, 2 bath trailer
Where I live in the ATL suburbs the average home price is around $200,000 and it's something like this:
The most expensive home in my zip is $1,980,000 and it's also totally ugly:
The cheapest is $23,900 for a trailer:
$90 000 will get you this 3 bed/1 bath house, where the foundation is bowing on two sides, it needs a new roof and the water isn't drinkable. Oh, and it's 25 minutes outside the city. Other options below $100 000 are only for built-up trailers.
$200 000 gets you this 3 bed/1 bath in the not good parts of town, or a condo townhouse in the good parts.
$300 000 is where you have to go to get more than 1 bathroom usually. This is a 3 bed/2 bath in a good area.
$500 000 for a 4 bed/4 bath
Most expensive is $2.3 million for a 22 bed/26 bed house converted into an inn, but the most expensive actual home is $1.5 million for 5 bed/5 bath. Most of the really expensive ones around here are because they're waterfront, but this one isn't.
The funny thing about this area is that you often have a giant mansion on the same street as a literal shack.

For 200k you can get a 2 bed 1 bath 800sqft home
For 300k to 400k you get 1000sqft 3 bed
400k to 600k a 1500 sqft 3 bed
The million dollar listings here are still only 2000 sqft 3 beds.
Yay, I am in MB, the housing market just took off the last few years and in the particular neighborhood I am in it is hard to find anything for less then 300k that is what we want.
In other neighborhoods you can get cheaper housing, but you might get robbed or mugged or our provinces weapon of choice, stabbed...
The most expensive home in our area is a 4 bdrm 4 bath 4000 sq ft home on 30 acres for $1.25 M
A few years ago, when we bought our first home, prices were great, lots of options user 200k. Right after we bought they sky rocketed! So a few years ago I would have said the same thing about Winnipeg housing. It does also depend on the neighbourhood, if you are looking in newer developments, the prices get crazy, older neighborhoods are a bit lower but still pricey depending.
Well this is depressing lol...
I'm too lazy to PIP, but here's the house prices in my city..
The most expensive house is a condo for $1.2M .. with a condo fee of $610./month It's 3 bdrm/3bath 3300sqft and it's in the most desirable waterfront neighborhood.
For about $700K you can get 3 bdrm/2.5 bath 1770sqft condo in the same waterfront neighborhood as the most expensive condo.
500K can get you a 4 bdrm/3.5 bath 1900sqft house on main road, but with waterfront views. It's close to the highway and also in a good neighborhood.
For around $350K you can get 3 bdrm/2bath house with 1160sqft . The house needs updating, but nothing seems to be structurally wrong with it.
The cheapest house is very deceiving. It's listed for $99K and has 3 bdrm/1.5 bath and has 1347sqft. It's being sold auction-style/house goes to the highest bidder, I'm not sure what that means but it says it's being sold "as-is". The "as-is" pictures are atrocious and the house probably needs to be torn down.
I couldn't find many houses for sale in my city around 200K that weren't foreclosures.. which is ironically our price range.. I guess that makes sense why we can't find a house!
I live in a zip code with very few single family homes. The most expensive for sale currently is 1.6mil, 3bd/4ba at 3557sq.ft. The least expensive place for sale is 310k, 1bd/1ba at 685sq.ft.

JFC, is that a Disneyland ride? That is hideous.
This being about the average home in my area. It's a 4 large bedrooms (possibly 5), 2 bathrooms home under $100,000 asking price.
