Help With LC?

Im 3 mnths pregnant with baby#2. I have a 15 month old toddler. I attempted to BF and only was able to do it for 2 wks with my first due to the stress of him not latching each time and then i developed a breast abscess on my boob that had the better supply! So i gave up after that. I really want to BF with baby#2 but am scared of the stress I had with when I tried the first time. I even paid an LC $225 and she got my DS to latch on within minutes so theres no issues with my nipples or anything. With this new law covering breast pumps and LCs Ill feel better trying having a resource to help since I cant afford to pay private LCS. I called Cigna but they werent much a help in getting me names of who would help as they dont have lactation consultant listed as a specialist. Im confused on who would help under my insurance?? Im doing this all now because I dont want to fail...and if I need help I want to be prepared on who I can call.

Re: Help With LC?

  • I had to get a referral from my OB to have my insurance partially cover a LC. You could try that or ask a LC connected to your hospital about getting covered under insurance.

I hope you have better luck this time. Breastfeeding can be quite challenging.

  • Start with your hospital- take their breastfeeding class and ask about their lactation support.  If they don't have any, go to talpp.org to find someone in your area.

  • Cigna also has really great over the phone lc. She was as helpful as she can be over the phone and stayed on with me through the tears and everything. She called me every few days until I was comfortable on my own. I would call back and ask about it
