our girls have been taking it for only sleeping since about 5 months or so. But I'm just wondering if it's too early to think about this or do anything about it?
Married 07/2011 ID Twin girls 04/2012 Baby #3 Due Jan. 2017
I weaned my oldest from the paci at 20 months old. We told her we would be sending all the paci's back to the NICU. A few days she cried (3 days) for about 15 or 20 minutes.
DD#2 isn't totally addicted to the paci and doesn't need it to fall asleep. I'm still going to wait until she's around 20 months or so to wean.
We stopped giving her the pacifier when we started sleep training her a few months ago. We just kind of did it cold turkey. She still had one in her PNP at daycare, but her DCP said she wasn't even interested in it. She would just toss it around.

I want to ditch it, but I think it's going to be harder on DH than DS (just like sleep training). I've finally established that it is only used for naps and bedtime. He spits it out within minutes of falling asleep, and it doesn't help put him back down if he's awake. He definitely still wants that comfort as he falls asleep. When he falls asleep while nursing now, he'll start biting me in his sleep.
Everyone else finds it adorable how well he can put his paci in and take it out. I think it proves how much of a "toy" it can be. If you're ready for it, I say go for it. We'll probably keep it for sleeping a little longer. Mostly because I want to keep it on hand for desperate shopping trips and long lines at Walmart. He's starting to outsmart it though. He's starting to figure out when it's being used to shut him up, and that only makes him madder. He's really good at throwing it across the room.

This is us. We only use it for naps/bedtime/super fussy. Other than that he never sees it. Hopefully it won't be too hard of a transition but he still likes to have it with him when sleeping.

We are the opposite...DH says it's time but I say not yet. He wants DS to be off the paci by his 1st birthday.
