EBFers please help!

I am EBFing my twins and dd wants to nurse not only to sleep at night but seemingly while she sleeps as well. Each time I think she's out and I put her down she cries until I nurse her again. This goes on for hours to the point where nothing is really coming out anymore and won't take a pacifier or bottle that's a whole other issue.
I'm currently consoling a wide awake baby who wants to use me as a pacifier all night long and I'm sore! DH works 24 hour shifts so there's only me help!
Thanks in advance!

Re: EBFers please help!

  • How old are your babies? They could be headed into a growth spurt/cluster feed. Also, there are just phases where babies just want to nurse for developmental reasons (Reading The Wonder Weeks, or even just Googling "wonder weeks (your babies' age)" has been extremely helpful.).

Neither of my girls would ever take a paci, so I've been there. The soreness will stop, just keep an eye on latch (see an IBCLC if you need to), and talk to your OB if it doesn't improve, as that could mean thrush.

  • the thing that saved me was when my boys found their fingers, maybe between 2-3 months. no more pacis to pop back in, less comfort sucking on mom.... try to guide her fingers to her mouth, it might help.

Hang in there, it will pass!!!

  • Thanks all! They are 8 weeks. I'm on edge about nursing in bed as DH just responded to a call where a baby died after getting rolled onto at night it's made us super worried about that so even though I know it's a great answer for many moms, I'm too scared to try the side nursing thing. I went through a pile of pacis last night trying to get her to take one. They have their well check Monday so I'll ask about flush or any other thoughts. You're probably right that it's just a phase. Only a particularly exhausting one! :P
