I had my u/s this morning (and another blood test but haven't been called with the results yet). The good news is that there isn't an ectopic pregnancy. The sac is in the uterus.
But, the technician (she said she was a doctor so not sure if she's an RE) said that considering my levels were 2299 two days ago they expect to see a fetus and heartbeat now, but she didn't see either. I am 5 weeks and 6 days. I'm kind of confused by the fact that she said they expect it. While I don't have my exact HcG on that day I know that it was higher early on with DD and there was nothing at my u/s with her either...and I was 6 weeks-so further along by a day than I am today.
Wasn't there an u/s technician here? anyone remember her sn so I can ask?
Re: F/U to I don't know if I'll be here much longer...
5w 6d seems early.
I have always been taught/told (majored in genetics) that 6w on the day is the earliest you "expect" to see a heartbeat. I do know that it can be seen before that I also know that sometimes it doesn't come up until a little later into the 6th week. Which is why there is a fairly large range or "normal" for numbers.
I would see if your hCG goes up then ask if there could be a repeat u/s. I am happy to here that there is a sac and it is not in your tubes.
Best of luck!
I just went through this and got two different answers. My first ultrasound the tech dated me at 6 weeks, saw a sac and the beginning of a fetal pole, no heartbeat. I asked if I should be concerned and she said 6 weeks is much too early to see a heartbeat.
I went one week later and instead of a tech a doctor did my ultrasound. I was dated at 6 weeks 1 day, saw the fetal pole, sac, teeny tiny baby-to-be and a heartbeat. I asked if I should be concerned that I was dated the same two weeks in a row, the doctor said that a ton of development had occurred and that the tech should have dated me at 5 weeks, since what she saw was consistent with 5 weeks not 6.
Sooo, also taking into account the massive amount of googling I did this past week I think it's really common not to see a heartbeat yet. It also depends on the machine and as I've learned the person using it. So when you go again either they might back-date you like they did with me, or you might be right on and the heartbeat just isn't there yet.
(( Hugs )) I know the waiting game massively sucks, I hope you get good news really, really soon.
That's what I've always heard, not expected before 6 weeks...so I was a little crushed when she typed it out in my file that they expect to see a heartbeat and fetus with these hcg numbers...
I should know my new numbers in about an hour or two, and I've already schedule my f/u ultrasound for a week from today. Thanks!
I know it's hard not to stress but I also know from experience that the u/s seems to be VERY difficult to see/read this early.
I had a loss last summer that sent me to the ER with one doctor telling me he saw a fetal pole and possibly a heartbeat to being discharged as a chemical pregnancy, all in the span of about 2 hours. Neither was quite right as I had to have a D&C 4 weeks later.
So, all that to say don't focus too much on what the technician said. I'm quite honestly surprised the tech said anything. Our tech wasn't allowed to tell us anything - I mean nothing.
