Car Seat Q

Does anyone have a Matrix or Vibe and have 2 Britax Boulevard seats installed?  I have a Matrix and am wondering how they will fit.  There is a good sale on seats right now so I'm thinking about ordering this new LO's convertible seat, but wanted to check out space first.

I'm just concerned with how much room there will be for the passenger and driver side seats to move back while the child seats are rear-facing.

It's too cold to go experimenting with mine and the sale ends soon.  TIA!

Re: Car Seat Q

  • Can you get to a Babies R Us?  I've heard they will let you put it in your car.

Do you already have one?  Can you take the measurements from the seat and see where that would line up in your car?

If you don't have one, there's a recline when the seat is in the RF'ing position that changes the dimensions to slightly longer front to back when it's in the RF'ing position.

You remove the recline when you move your child to FF'ing and get a couple inches (if that) back.

I will say that the Blvd is so freakin' easy to install.  I really love it.

  • I can't speak for the Britax, but we did try to fit all 3 of our car seats in the Matrix when we were at the Auto Show, and that didn't work out for us because we had to pull the front seats so much we'end up with our knees right against the steering wheel.

Mind you, we were using the Radian in the RF position, which I believe is taller than the Britax Boulevard, so your seat might still work. That and DH and I are fairly tall (he's 6' - 6'1").

Also, not sure what price you're getting on your seat, but Snugglebugz.ca is having a sale right now up until the 17th. They have the Boulevard 65 G3 on for $305.99 and free shipping. Not sure if that's a good price or not, but I thought I'd mention it. Also, you wouldn't be charged any tax if you order from them. When I ordered from them, I paid the GST (but not the PST), but I just tried it with a NL postal code and the tax came up to 0. Anyhoo, I just thought I'd mention it  - If the sale is worth it, then you now actually have more time to go and try your car seat in the RF position to figure out whether it can work for you or not.

    Oh, and where's the sale?

No dice on the Babies R Us :(

I could take the measurements and that's likely what I'll have to do.  DD does already have the seat and I love the easy install and the comfort.  I might have to freeze my arse off for a few minutes to go out and play around with it.  Playing around with the recline might help too!  Thanks for the suggestion.

The sale is at www.snugglebugz.ca all of their car seats are on sale.  It's a Canadian store though, so you'd probably get cheaper prices by just going to a local store (Boulveard is $305 rather than $339)  I love it, because it's free shipping.

I'm going to use DD's old infant seat until he/she is ready to move up so I'm thinking waaaay in advance here.

That's where I've been looking!  I had no idea about the tax.  I ordered DD's seat from there and didn't even notice, haha.

Good to know about the Matrix though.  My lease is up in July but because I'm due at the beginning I can't even bring the car to a dealer to return it.  I was planning on keeping it anyway, but now am wondering about the logistics.

So with 3 seats, you obviously can't use the LATCH system right?  It would have to be seatbelts?  I've never even tried to install using seatbelts but I'm sure that our vehicles only have room for 2 seats using LATCH.

I'm short and am the primary driver of my car but SO is same as your hubs and does drive it occasionally.  On long trips we need the seats to fit in his truck too, would I don't think would be a problem.

Great minds think alike :) I love Snugglebugz - I wish they were closer because I would love to be able to physically go in the store. Or maybe it's a good thing they aren't. lol

To be honest, DH did all the work at the Auto Show, so I don't know for sure how he installed the car seats, but I would think he used the universal anchoring system for the two outer ones, then the seat belt for the middle one (the infant bucket seat). Come to think of it, I don't recall a single car being able to accommodate all 3 car seats on the same row using the UAS (is that the same as LATCH?), so the middle seat definitely had to be secured in with the seat belt.

FWIW, when I mentioned our "experiment" on FB, a friend of mine (who is fairly short) commented that 3 seats did work in a Matrix. I just don't know what kind of configuration she had going.

Our 2012 Honda Pilot had 3 LATCH anchors in the first row of rear seats.

So how many seats does that accommodate?  My car has 4 connectors, but that's only good for two seats.

Mama Ha - yes, LATCH is the same as LUAS.

  • I can't comment on seats but your multiple seats may not need LATCH system anymore for max safety. My friend confirmed with her sister who works for NHSTA that the Latch system use is not tested for 65lbs or more. That is seat weight and child weight combined.

I saw someone had this article posted on Facebook yesterday.  I haven't read it yet, but do remember reading in a post from Lucie's List blog that most LATCH systems weren't rated to 65lb anyway, they were rated to 40lbs and after that you would need to use the seatbelt.  I think it said each car was different and you can check the manual for your cars weight restrictions.

    Thanks!
