Menstrual migraines

Anyone deal with these at all?  My Dr. put me on Seasonalle, so I don't get as many, but they are pretty debilitating for me, since they seem to mess up my speech anD communication  skills along with the headache.  I had to leave work early today and finally got my fiorocet prescription today which has helped in the past, but didn't do a damn thing today.  I also took a Vallium which at least relaxed me a little bit, but my head still hurts...okay, so I think I over shared, but does anyone get these or have suggestions on what has worked.

Re: Menstrual migraines

  • Mine flare up when Im on my period. Making sure Im getting enough sleep, trying to stay stress free, Thermacare patches across my shoulders, avoiding caffeine, staying hydrated and be vigilante about what I eat helps. Although if a storm is coming and Im on my period its game over. I get aura, my face muscles get so tight you can actually see it, I can barely spell my name and God help anyone who asks me a question because you're either getting yelled at or I will ignore you because I have no clue you're talking to me lol.

  • I don't get a full on migraine but I get a constant pain only on one side of my head that feels like a sinus headache. I always seem to get them the week before my period starts.Annoying as ***. Unfortunately, I usually have to ride them out. Sometimes plain 'ol Tylenol works or Mountain Dew (heavy caffeine) but most of the time, I deal with it for 2 days straight. The weird thing is, this only started when I turned 30. Hopefully the meds work for you.

  • Mine have practically gone away over the years, but when they were frequent, they were awful.

I have taken  all sorts of drugs for them

Preventative meds:  Beta Blockers and Topamax.  Topamax was effective but I lost too much weight, had anxiety, and would forget words.  Beta Blockers sucked because, at the time, I was active and they slowed me down.

Pain treatments:  Fiorocet, Imitrex, Maxalt, Excedrin Migraine.  Of all of those, usually a combo of Imitrex (only 25mg) and Excedrin did the trick.  I do remember a time when I was taking 100mg  but that made my heart race.  When I was prescribed 50mg, I started splitting them to 25.  I wanted to take the lowest possible dose that worked.

Even with all of that, sometimes, the only thing that would help was a dark, quiet room.

I hope you get relief, I know how miserable they can make you feel.
