Diet Rite?

Hi October mamas!

I have googled and searched the boards and haven't found much about this.  I know diet sodas, in general, are not recommended during pregnancies due to caffeine and aspartame, but, does anyone know if Diet Rite is ok?  It it is caffeine free and does not contain aspartame.  I don't think I have been able to find much about this because Diet Rite is not a very popular drink, although that has always been my go-to (aside from McDonald's Diet Cokes!)   I'm definitely going to ask my doctor but my first appointment is not until Feb 28th, but was hoping to find an answer before.  I think giving up diet soda is going to be the hardest for me... but I can do it!

 Thanks in advance ladies!

Re: Diet Rite?

  • Everything is alright in moderation. I drank diet rite last year when I was pregnant with my first. Just limit yourself to a few a week :)

  • Most artificial sweeteners are considered ok in moderation, but it's recommended that saccharin/Sweet'N Low be avoided during pregnancy.  I'm not sure what is in diet rite.

  • Thanks ladies!   Diet Rite uses Sucralose as the artificial sweetner, which I am pretty sure is the same thing as Splenda.  I have always liked it because it is sodium free as well.

There are virtually no health concerns among scientists with using Splenda--except in ridiculously huge amounts that no human could ever consume (like a chronic habit of 500 sodas a day or something equally ridiculous).

     Drink up!

  • I just go for regular soda when I'm pregnant, in moderation.  The only time I will drink regular soda.

  • Thanks Ladies!   I have also heard the suggestion to just drink regular, but believe it or not, regular is too sweet for me.  Growing up, we only had diet soda in the house so that what I got used to and learned to love. Thanks again!!
