Mastitis

I am 99.9% sure I have mastitis... fever, flu like symptoms, aching body, bloody/stringy clumps in the expressed milk from my right breast, pain in my right breast.... ugh! It came out of no where today and now I am miserable!

Those that have experienced/dealt with it.... did your OB, PCP, or CNM prescribe antibiotics over the phone or did you have to go in for an office visit?  

The reason I ask is because my CNM's office is only open from 9 to noon tomorrow and they never have openings... ever... I really doubt I can make it through the weekend like this if they cant get me in.  Would a CVS minute clinic give you an Rx?

    If it's urgent, they'll probably bring you in.  A minute clinic is not likely to prescribe you antibiotics.

    My ob told me to just call her office in case of BFing issues. In the past, they asked me about my symptoms, called in a prescription, and told me to call back if it didn't get better.

    My OB wanted to see me, and the advice nurse said she would have sent me to urgent care if they couldn't get me in. Mastitis sucks! Came out of nowhere for me too.

    Both times I had mastitis, I called my OB's office and they prescribed me antibiotics. Call them in the morning. You don't want to leave mastitis untreated.

    Keep nursing/pumping, and try to keep the infected side empty. Soak a diaper with hot water and put it on that breast, or use a heating pad for 1015 min before nursing/pumping. Take Tylenol or Advil for the fever/pain.
