Babies: 6 - 9 Months

When did your LO sit up on own

So out almost 7-month old sits up and plays all day long when we put her in the sitting position.  Yet she cannot get up on her own free will.  I swear she has a defined 2-pack from straining herself to try.  We recently discovered that if she push (not with force or anything like that just gentle and playfully) her legs down when she is struggleing to get herself up that she goes up to sitting no problem.  We thought it was a fluke but sure enough she did it agian the next day.  She tries so hard but she can't sit.

When did your LO sit up if they are sitting up?

Re: When did your LO sit up on own

  • I am SO glad you posted this, as I've been wondering myself!!  DS sits great when we put him that way, and if he falls back and ends up leaning against me or the boppy (if it's behind him) he is occasionally able to pull himself back up to sitting, but that's from starting on an incline.  He doesn't even seem to show sings of trying to get to the sitting position if he is laying flat!!

  • We don't even put the boppy any more, she will just play play play.  She can even scoot herself to get what she wants on either side of her or she will go face first onto her tummy and play.  I am just like come on girlie when are you going to boost yourself up.  I swear she has abs of steel from trying so hard.

  • About 6 months and 1 week. 2 days after he started cross crawling. He did it a couple times before but I think it was just a fluke. He could sit well, but if he got too excited or looked straight up or turned too much to look, he'd still fall. It was a nerve wracking couple of weeks until I knew he could crawl, sit, and stand without falling!

  • DS could sit well on his own and even get up from lying position to sitting position at about 7.5 months...it was like 1 day he couldn't and then the next day he could..
  • My LO can get into a sitting position from being on all fours but he props himself up with one arm.  He'll be on all fours and then drop down onto one hip and then lean up and support himself with an arm.  He sits totally unassisted if I put him in a sitting position but the sitting up himself from being on all fours, he figured out on his own about a week ago.

  • Hmm guess she needs to figure out how to get on all fours too maybe?  Thank you for all the input!!!

  • LO started crawling about 7 months and seemed to figure out sitting on her own simultaneously.

  • My daughter is just now starting to get to sitting up on her own at 8.5 months but I think she could have done it a month ago... She just prefers being on her belly and doesn't like sitting much.  My son couldn't get up to sitting by himself until he was over a year old.  He was slightly delayed on his gross motor milestones but not enough for EI (he was evaluated) and the pedi wasn't really too concerned about it.
