High sugar- question!

I failed my second sugar test, the one at 16 weeks was good (so were my others with my previous pregnancy- my daughter), the one yesterday (27 weeks) was not. Now I have to go in for that three hour test on tuesday.

My question is should I stay away from sugar until I take the three hour test?

  • Nope. My understanding is you need to continue your normal diet so they can get a true reading of your sugars.

  • No, your diet has nothing to do with whether you have gestational diabetes.  It's about how your body processes carbs.  Just make sure to follow your doctors instructions about fasting before the test.  And bring a snack with you to eat after the 3 hour test is done - you will be hungry by then!

This. Good luck! If you have GD, don't stress. I was able to control without insulin and everything was just fine. The boys had some low sugar levels after birth and spent 1-2 days in the NICU for monitoring, but they were totally fine.

  • I avoided sugar and heavy carbs a few days prior. But I don't eat a lot of that anyway. I failed the first by a point and passed the 3 hour. GL most pass the 3 hr it's just a hassle!
