I have having a heck of a time deciding between these 2 seats for when LO needs to move out of his infant seat. Any input?

Re: Diono Radian RXT vs Chicco NextFit

  • I got a Diono Radian RXT for my DS after he outgrew his Britax Chaperone. I am probably going to order a second one for #2 so I can fit them side by side in my Nissan Cube. I really want DD (#2) to ride in the middle and I can't get the Chaperone and the Radian side-by-side :/

I am going to do extended rear-facing as long as possible and the Radian is one of three car seats on the market that goes up to 45 lbs. RFing. Not only that, but it has high marks when it comes to crash test ratings. To top things off, you can find some great deals online for them! I really think it is worth the investment to get the Radian RXT.

It is also a good idea to send a copy of your sales receipt and registration info to your car insurance company to have on file in case you are ever involved in a crash, they can refund you ASAP :)

  • The NextFit isn't out yet. I think it comes out this spring march maybe?. Most of the blogs have only seen the prototype at the baby expos.

  • The Radian can be used longer as it can turn into a belt positioning booster.

Technically this is correct, however it works as a booster for very few children and for very little time. The child outgrows it in booster and harness mode pretty much at the same time. Plus there's a 50 lb minimum before a child can use it in booster mode. My older daughter (who is tall, slender and has a long torso) outgrew the harness for height at 40 lbs a year and a half ago and still hasn't gotten near 50 lbs, so we would have needed another seat for her anyway.

Exactly.  Just based on the very very early reviews, I would choose the Nextfit but that's just because of the ease of use and the many recline positions.  The Radian is also a great seat but I think you'll have to wait til the Nextfit is released to read more about it.  I'm not sure which is supposed to rear face longer in regards to height (since seats are often outgrown in height before weight).

    We were 2 under 2, now 3 under 3!
Team Green turned Team Pink with #1, Team Green turned Team Blue with #2, Team Green turned Team Pink again with #3
  • It sounds like the NextFit is going to be a little taller, which is usually more important for extended rfing. I don't think the seat is out yet though.

We have a Graco MySize70 and a SK Radian. Both are great seats. The MySize will last us longer rfing, even though it has a lower rfing weight limit.

  • I have a radian for LO 1, and I like the seat because it is so narrow. I can fit a small adult in between the keyfit and the radian. I am hoping to get a nextfit for LO 2, I like that it is advertising an easy installation and high rear facing limit. The radian is just not that easy in install rear facing in my car.
