Sleeping in the car

When your LO falls asleep in the car, do you ever just keep driving around and/or sit in your car in the driveway or parking lot until he wakes up? I can't move DS's carseat without waking him, so a lot of times I will just hang out in the car with him until he wakes on his own. He only takes 45 minute naps most times anyway. I really wish there was a way to get him in the house without waking him, but it is what it is. I just wondered if anyone else is ranking up major points in cell phone Solitaire, too.

Re: Sleeping in the car

  • It depends really. If she was super cranky I'll keep driving around or just park and eat something so she can get a short nap in. Otherwise I'll just carry the carseat in where ever I'm going and if she is tired enough she will just fall back asleep.

No solitaire for me. I play Tetris.  ;)

  • Wow , no . How do you have time for that ?

  • She would stay asleep, even when we took the car seat out. But now we switched to the convertible :((((

  • No , I would go nuts just sitting in the car.

If it's his naptime and he falls asleep in the car, I'll carry him in since we're still using the infant carrier and he'll stay asleep. If it's not his naptime I take him out of the carrier so he wakes up.

  • DS stays asleep when we take him out of the car in his carseat, especially if he goes on the stroller afterwards. But if its to inside the house he will sleep for another 30 min or so depending on how tired he is. But he usually can stay asleep while I'm taking him in and out of car.
  • It depends.  Lately she falls asleep on the way home from anywhere.  I will hang in the garage while she sleeps (yay Kindle).  If I am trying to go somewhere I will give her a few minutes.  We now have a convertible car seat so I can't just pop her out anymore - I miss that!

  • I actually sat in a mall parking lot for almost an hour because DS fell asleep, it was right around nap time so I just let him be for an hour.
  • What a difference a day makes! As I read this yesterday I thought, "man I wish DS would sleep in the car like he used to". Fast forward to 25 minutes ago, on our way home from daycare, he fell asleep! So here I sit in the garage...

LOL  I feel a little bit better now knowing that I'm not the only one. (You don't have your motor running in a closed garage though, right?! Just making sure.) I am amazed at all the babies who sleep through having their car seats moved. DS always wakes up the moment I even attempt to lean over to hit the release.

No way, the garage door was open! I had to pee and was super thirsty, but I stuck it out cuz he still hasn't napped much at daycare. This nap turned out to be an hour and a half!
