CVS or AMNIO????

Okay ladies ? I am having real issues trying to determine if the CVS genetic testing is actually a good thing to do for me? I'm totally confused now.

I've read post after post, how women have a CVS that comes back abnormal and then are sent to do Amnio and the baby is fine. I don't know if the risk outweighs the benefit at this point. M/C is my biggest fear of all.

I'm 35 years old, will be 36 in Apr at 8w2d and I have never heard of any issues regarding defects in babies in our family on either side (mine or DH) and my 4 sibling all have beautifully healthy children. I'm at a loss.

Being I suffered a M/C in Nov, I just want to be sure that everything is alright, but my DH is totally freaking out that something may be wrong and we won't know...what are your thoughts?? Anyone feel one way or another about the tests?? Or has anyone had them and have any advice??

Thanks for your input in advance ? I'm just truly starting to freak out about the whole thing.

  • I was 35 when I became pregnant with my son and did not have any defects in our family history. We had the nuchal translucency test which is an ultrasound and blood test done just prior to the end of 1st trimester and another test at around 15 weeks. This test also helps show signs of Down Syndrome or other problems if any. At least with this test it is less invasive and you get similar results. Google it and read more about it.

  • That is such a tough call. I am 31 having second child and we won't be testing for this baby either. We just figure whatever is meant to be will be and concerned about complications from and errors with the testing. I guess you really just have to way how important the results would be. Will it make a difference to you? Or is just to be better prepared? You might just want to look into preparations you could have on stand-by if that is the concern.
