PT doesn't wash her hands

Im lucky to have a Physical therapist come to our house to work with LO. The state offers a program for child development and it is very good. I've been working for about 4 months w a PT/OT who lately if forgetting to wash her hand when she gets home and touches the baby. Even though I have sings all over "please wash your hands" and 7 Hand sanitizers spread on every table of my little apartment. I have to remind her to do it but today she took me by surprise as she arrived when LO was on the high chair and she grabbed a puff and put it in LO's mouth! I told her please wash your hands but it was done. Later I realized she has a cold sore so I'm pretty upset about it. I don't do t if I should speak to the program or just be like a hawk and tell her to wash her hands as she steps in. I have to do the same for MIL too ugh...

They always reply "oh I washed my hands before leaving home" . How about my apartment building public door handle and the elevator buttons! I'm so frustrated. What else can I do?

that is gross and I'd say something.  I don't think I'd let her in the house until she sanitized.  put a baby gate by the door and declare it the "santizer line!"

My MIL says "i just washed" too... no you didn't! you washed 15 minutes ago before you walked around your house touching everything including my nephews! She also calls sanitizer "crap" which ticks me off. That "Crap" could be saving your grandson's life so get over the 10 seconds it takes you to use!

  • As soon as they walk in the door politely direct them to the bathroom to wash their hands then to the sanitizer. Don't let anyone go against your rules it is your house and your baby. If she balks at that tell her to leave and talk to her supervisor. That's absolutely ridiculous.

  • It throws me off that being a PT who has been working w many babies, many of them preemies, washing hads should be second nature!

Even before LO I always wash my hands when I enter my house or anybody's house, it is a habit.

I thought about mentioning it to the program coordinator bc it has been happening more than 3 times now, but I may just have an honest conversation with her when she comes back next week. If it happens agains after that, then I'll request another PT or I'll go private.

  • We don't have a pt, but we do have an in home visit nurse for dds shots until march. She uses surgical scrub sanitizer like the nicu gave us at discharge and puts on gloves before she handles DD. Granted she does shots so gloves are required unlike with pt, but she won't touch DD at all unless she has at least sanitized.
