Induction questions

If nothing happens tonight I have a dr appt at 11 am tomorrow and will be induced shortly after.

I was just wondering what I should/shouldn't eat tonight and tomorrow. I'll want energy but I also don't want to get sick.

I know I won't want to eat much of anything tomorrow morning since I don't know how soon I'll get induction meds. I'm guessing if I've progressed maybe they will have me walk the halls for a little while before starting meds?

TIA for any other tips/advice :)

Re: Induction questions

  • I would ask the doctors.

Personally I would be inclined to eat normally, but I'm not very conservative with these things.

  • I have to check into the hospital at 7:30pm on Monday for my induction on Tuesday morning.  They told me to eat before checking in.  Because I know I won't be able to eat again, I plan to eat a big, filling dinner around 5pm on Monday.  Probably a big plate of pasta with some protein.  And some ice cream.  The docs didn't give me any guidelines on what to eat/not to eat, just as long as I've eaten before checking in.  If I were you I'd eat something big tonight, and then maybe just something small with protein tomorrow morning.

  • I haven't been induced but I throw up like crazy during labor. With my first, the nurse asked what I had had for dinner and I told her. She said if you know you are about to give birth, like having contractions, then only eat light like soup. With my second they sent me to the hospital when my NST showed contractions. They wouldn't let me have anything but ice chips and it was over 18 hours before he was born. My recommendation is to eat light because throwing up tons of stuff during labor is NOT fun!

Yeah I figured if I eat tonight (if contractions are irregular and not really painful) then I should be ok since it will probably be a good 16+ hrs before things get going. I may try and skip out on breakfast tomorrow.

I didn't really eat dinner last night b/c I wasn't sure what was going on, so I just had a piece of banana bread for dinner along with a few triscuits lol.

  • EAT WOMAN! IDK but when I went in to the hospital I ate hardly anything and was starving all day.

I wasn't induced, but... I mean, it's not like they're gonna feed you anything but delicious IV fluids.

Yep!  Especially since you aren't going in until tomorrow, your meal will digest by then.  I'd eat a lot of protein for both dinner and breakfast.

I think I may go with a grilled chicken salad and possibly some french fries, since those are my weakness :)
