Are you in teething hell, too? Come commiserate with me

This is BS.  C has been teething with his upper molars and lower front tooth for over a week.  Even with Advil, he's waking up multiple times a night.  This is our third night in a row of wake-ups, and we are freakin' exhausted.  I'm super nervous because I've been giving him Advil once a night for probably over 7 days.  Am I ruining his liver?  He is besides himself.  During the day I can distract him, but not in the middle of the night.  DH thinks that we should give him a 2nd dose around 3am when he's awake, but like I said, I'm nervous about his liver.

This has never gone on this long.  What.the.eff.

  • I have had a rather cranky toddler lately. She has been working on teeth for a while now. She hasn't received any new teeth since 10 months...

    Ooh!  Me! Me!

DD is recovering from being sick and she's clearly working on at least one of her molars (I can't get in her mouth to check... but she's chewing on her toothbrush like it's going out of style).

She was sent home from daycare on Monday for being "snotty and miserable".  I stayed home yesterday and she would not eat anything except pouches and milk. No yogurt, no super soft pasta, no blueberries.  And was a clingy, drooly, snotty, cranky mess. Advil lets her sleep, thankfully!

We gave her Advil this morning and sent her to daycare.  I'm not hopeful that she won't be sent home.... she's just too clingy and miserable.

Also: Don't worry about C's liver (that's Tylenol).  Advil is hard on the stomach.  One dose a day should be fine, even for that amount of time.  Just make sure he's not taking it on an empty stomach.

I hope C cuts those teeth and feels better soon!

This is awesome!!  What a great excuse for being sent home early, although not for you.  Yes, C went through that part of the teething stage already.  The Bump sent out an email that said that chewing on frozen peas might help.  I think that if I tried that, he'd spit them at me.  Although I've had him suck on the frozen pea bag before with previous teeth and he seemed to like it.  I had NO IDEA that teething was this bad.

You made me feel better about the Advil, thank you.  Guess I'm just paranoid, that lovely Mommy Guilt..

ETA: It is not awesome that she is physically snotty and miserable.  In my tired state, I read it as her attitude was that way.  I'm sorry, when I reread that, I sounded like a total b!tch!

  • We are in pure hell. DD1 started last week with cough/congestion and the molars and we haven't really recovered. She ran a fever from Wednesday to Friday and hasn't eaten anything of note since Wednesday. I took her to the doctor Thursday and she had double ear infections....now she's just teething but still not eating. She's a whiny, cling hot mess. I'm about ready to chisel the dang teeth out.
  • All of E's teeth just broke through so we are done other then 2 yr molars!! I feel you pain, it was rough!

  • Bennett got all four molars at once. It was a very, very dark time for all. I've never seen gums get so swollen. He would eat pouches but nothing else. We rotated Motrin and Tylenol because I was also concerned about his liver/kidneys. Orajel helped some but he seemed to only get comfort from oracle if we massaged his gums for a long time. Right now we are waiting for incisors. Again, all four at once, but these bastards are taking much longer to pop thru.

  • We are done, except for two year molars. He was miserable though. I wouldn't worry about the Advil, Chunstad. He is in pain, he needs it.

For adults, oil of cloves helps with tooth aches. I would try that. Check first if it is a problem for little kids.

  • Right here! E is one giant grump and all bets are off as far as when and what she will eat and when and how long she will sleep. We're walking on a tightrope over here.

  • We still only have the front 5 teeth here. Number 6 is starting to poke through. I'm so not looking forward to the molars. You all are scaring me!
