Anyone else have O blood? I do and was told that I'll need to start gets shots can't remember name around 26 weeks incase my baby has a positive blood type. I'm trying to find more info on this but can't find much. It's on my question list for our next appointment since it wasn't explained very well the first time...or the fact that I just didn't understand! ;o
Re: O negative blood type???
Its called the Rh negative factor. Its normal. You need two injections of RHOGAM, one at 26-28 weeks and one post-partum (though my OB says if the baby is Rh negative, too, then I don't need the 2nd one).
Long and short is that the rhogam keeps your body from creating an immune response against the baby.
Get the injections and all will be well.
EDIT: I am A negative; its just has to do with the 'negative' part after the blood type. I have to get these injections, too.
EDIT2: Here's a helpful site.

Like Pp said it's the fact that you blood type is negative. I don't think your husband's blood type has anything to do with it.
I am O negative and have had two kids and with both pregnancies I had to have two shots. My doctors does it the same day as the glucose test. The do it on the upper part of your bum. The shot has a zing but other then that it is quick and easy. Both of my girls had positive blood type so I had to get the second shot while I was in the hospital.
The husbands blood type does matter. The risk with being negative is only if your baby is positive. Since you are negative your baby only has the possibility of being positive if your husband is positive. Two negative parents can't make a positive baby. Therefore if her husband was negative as well she would not need to worry with the shots.
Ditto this. Hubs and I are both O- so I won't need the shot as there is no worry about the baby being +.
You'll need to find out what your partner is and then discuss with your doctor, but the shot is pretty standard practice. If I had needed it it wouldn't be something I would have worried much about.
This is 100% correct, but I have heard of some doctors that insist on the shot whether your husband is negative or not. They do it for liability reasons, just in case the father isn't actually the father...I guess some doctors don't trust their patients fidelity

that makes perfect sense, I know many doctors don't even inquire about the husbands blood type
