Is it because you are seeing an RE or have experienced losses in the past, or do you just have a super involved ob? I can't figure out why so many people post about their betas when most mws and obs won't see you for pregnancy until you're 8 or 10 weeks along.
Re: S/O my UO: If you do betas or early u/s
I am fairly certain in most cases it is people who are seeing REs or have a history of losses. My OB did not offer to do betas. My first visit is on the early side at 6 weeks but I have no idea what she plans to do then.
I'm seeing a RE and did IVF to conceive therefore I have multiple betas and an early u/s. To be honest, after almost 2 years, it really puts my fears and anxieties to rest and I know that things are progressing well.
If I wasn't seeing a RE I would be like any other PG woman and wait until 8-10 weeks to see my OB.

I am seeing an RE, we conceived on an IUI cycle so we have 3 betas and an early 6-7wk ultrasound to confirm pregnancy before we are released to our OB
This is normal for any patent of an RE going through any type of treatment exp using fertility drugs.
I also agree with asilwhite about how it really puts my fears and anxieties to rest, TTC has been a long hard road for my husband and I.
I had a missed miscarriage at 13 weeks two years ago. That's not entirely the reason though. This was an "unplanned planned" pregnancy. Had my IUD removed 12/27 but hadn't had a period yet. We were waiting till after that first cycle to go actively trying. I took a test on 2/3 just on a feeling.
Blood work was done to see how far along I was. I would have requested it anyways. I interned with my OB over the summer and she is so good to me.
Hiya lady!!! So happy to be over here with you!!
Ok. I change my UO. Under these circumstances I can see why so much monitoring would be necessary.
Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences.
I've never had betas done, but I'm still in the realm of normal fertility, even with three losses because only two were consecutive. If something happens and I lose this baby as well I expect I will be bumped up to closer monitoring and they'll test my betas then.
Early ultrasounds on the other hand are fairly standard here in Canada (at least in Alberta, in my experience) because normal pregnancy diagnostics are all covered by public health care. Even in a standard pregnancy with no expected complications the doctors I've had have used Early Obstetric ultrasounds for dating and to check for viability, as well as to rule out multiple pregnancies (or confirm).
I know where Ilive, you see your family doctor for the first 26 weeks (once per month), then you get referred to your OB who sees you once until 30 weeks, then every 2 weeks, then every week.
The Gp will always send you for bloodwork when you tell them you're first pregnant as routine for complete blood count, blood type, HIV screening, HcG levels, etc. If they are lower they'll send you for more bloodwork. That's just to start off. All my friends seem to be pincushions during their pregnancy after 10 weeks

So happy you made it over here! Congrats girl!
I am seeing an RE because I have had 3 losses and have blood clotting and chromosomal issues. I go once a week until 8 weeks. I have had 2 ultrasounds so far and 3 sets of betas/progesterone.
I'm glad I'm getting good care, but I do agree a little with your UO ( if I'm remembering it correctly) that it causes undue stress - I have never been this stressed out in my life and my pregnancy with DS was so much easier because I didn't know anything was wrong with me.

History of losses here. But, we're only doing one beta this week because it was good, one more next week.
Seeing an RE here too..DH has Sertoli-only syndrome so we're working with donor sperm. 3 betas and an early ultrasound, progesterone & estrogen until they release me to my OB at 10 weeks.
It would be nice not to have to do this stuff since it's not all that fun to drive 40 minutes each way to the RE's office for 30 seconds of bloodwork, but it is what it is.

yes, for me it's the reproductive center. They normally only do one beta if it's high enough...in my case it's because I mentioned a little spotting so they did a second and then when they saw it wasn't totally doubling every 48 hours they ordered a third a week later.
They also give an u/s at 6 weeks (or until they see a hb)
My first OB visit is tonight but he would just have me POAS...nothing else until about 10 weeks I think...that's when they listen for the hb.
