If y'all think I should post this toddlers or parenting, LMK. I'm just so at home here. :]
Lucy has had what began as possible allergies, morphed into a cold and is now something else entirely. When I got home late last night, H had her in a bath in the steamiest bathroom I've ever seen. He said she started choking while coughing and it scared him. I am so glad he knew what to do...
I've mentioned how she hasn't been resting well this week and tonight was no exception. She's been in our bed since midnight and woke me up about 4 coughing this awful barking cough. Google tells me this [and all her other symptoms] indicate Croup.
I have zero experience with this. I'm going to get her in to the pedi asap because the coughing and choking terrify me.
Any experience mamas or special tricks to help her get better soon? This bout of sickness has my anxiety through the roof and I can't sleep because I'm worried about her breathing.

::coffee and cookies if you made it through my sleep deprived ramblings::
Re: STM or anyone: Croup
Poor Lucy and poor Momma.
i don't have any experience with croup. We were at the ER once nd a baby was there that had it, I swear every time he coughed I looked around for a dog. I'd call the pedi ASAP in the morning and get her checked out.
ETa: does your pedi have an advice line? Or does your insurance offer a 24hour nurse line? I'd give them a cll if you do.

Here comes Baby Rob #3
BFP on Cycle 17 09/27/12. EDD 06/04/12! Please Stick Baby! A/S 01/22/13 Baby looking great. Officially TEAM BLUE! Jack is getting a Baby Brother! RCS scheduled for 05/29/13. William Daryll born at 9:59am on 05/29/13. Left ovary and tube removed due to peach sized tumor found during RCS. Pathology came back benign!
I would take her in to get a diagnosis. Croup is almost always viral in nature. A streamy bathroom is always the first choice when at home. If it gets extreme the doctor will often recommend epinephrine or steroids to help bring down the swelling of the airway.
I feel for you. I am at home with a sick LO as well. We currently have scarlet fever, croup and the flu circulating around our community:(
Your poor LO! This has been a bad season for us. We've been hit with practically everything!
Still waiting on the pedi's office to open. Tick tock.
I talked to the on call doc last night about symptom relief but I hadn't yet picked up on her cough sounding so...seal like. We'll be heading in to see him first thing but it's only 6 here. :[
Wow I hadn't heard that!

Cool moist air will also help relieve the cough. Hold her in front of an open freezer or bundle her up and take her outside in the cold night air. That's what the pedi's around here say to do.
Hope she gets feeling better soon!
We've gotten croup way too many times. Cool outside air is the best, hot steamy shower is second best and a cool mist humidifier is the next best. It is almost always a virus and is usually really bad for 2 days but usually lasts about 4 days. We've almost always had to go to the ER or doctor for a steroid shot and a nebulizer treatment to open up his airway. It sucks but usually it doesn't last too long.
Fingers crossed she gets better soon.
