I bled for a total of eight weeks. The first week was the heaviest (soaking a heavy pad every two-three hours and lots of small clots). After that, I would have days of needing to wear a pad and days of needing pantiliners. Any significant activity (or even an occasional nursing session) would send me rushing to the bathroom with a gush. In the second month, I bled on and off and only ever needed a pantiliner.
The biggest thing I wish someone had told me was to expect an ebb and flow (no pun intended) of bleeding. I freaked when my bleeding had tapered to nearly nothing at 10 days pp and then returned with a vengeance. Also, I got a UTI from the catheter and my OB said that may have made my bleeding a bit worse. Something else to keep in mind.

I bled for 6 weeks but the heavy bleeding was over before I even left the hospital. I only needed a thin pad or panty liners for the most part. I had a c-section.
i bled for two weeks, and it was soooo light i wore the lightest pad out there, even in the hospital i needed only thin pads. hopefully yours will be minimal!

I was pretty much done by the time of my six week postpartum appointment. My bleeding was crazy heavy during my hospital stay after my c-section, and then lessened to the equivalent of a heavy period flow for about a week or two. After that, it gradually tapered off until it was just annoying spotting for awhile.
(TMI, but one night around four weeks pp, I had a huge golf ball-sized clot that scared me. Everything was fine, I probably just overexerted myself that day!)
I would say my bleeding was average or slightly less (I know because I was a postpartum nurse for 2 years). I only had slightly heavy bleeding the first day and then it was like a moderate period type flow for a week and then spotting on and off until 5-6 weeks. I actually made my mom go buy me some smaller pads because the hospital ones were so huge.
Keep in mind that typically with c-sections, the bleeding isn't quite as heavy since they suction out the extra blood during surgery. I wonder if the number of placentas contributes to the amount? I will warn you that they do watch MoMs very closely for PP hemorrhage as we are at an increased risk due to an overextended uterus. They will be massaging your belly REALLY firmly in recovery. That was the most painful thing I remember post c/s.
I did but also seem to have some tissue that I thankfully passed right before my 8 week checkup which stopped the damn bleeding. And then a cruel fate started my period at 13 weeks, argh. I bled for about 46 weeks with my singles, if I remember correctly.

I don't know if MoMs bleed more because I only have the twins but for what it's worth I think I bled for a little over 8 weeks. It was super heavy for about 4 days and then just like a normal period until the last week when it was barely there. Good luck!

I had a vaginal delivery. The bleeding was much less than what I expected heavy period while in the hospital, medium to light period for about a week, and spotting and discharge after that. I still have a package of overnight pads that I bought and never used.
Saving money while raising more kids than you bargained for!
I have no idea if MoMs bleed longer and/or heavier. I bled for 6 wks - had a c/s. I had a few small clots the first week or so and the bleeding was quite heavy. It got increasingly lighter as time went on and was very light the last couple of wks.

I'm 6 wks PP and still bleeding . But it seems to have lightened up, as I'm just in pantyliners now. Of course, I thought that last week too and then had a huge gush during nursing (have had about 3 or 4 of those, similar to what PP mentioned....big ole clots and all). The first time one of those happened I freaked and called the doctor, who told me that such gushes are apparently very normal after a C/S. It seems that, with most of these matters, every body is different. GL...you are getting so close!
